Sovcral battles have been fought between the posses and (he outlaws who attempted to rob tho First National bank of Cody yesterday afternoon and who murdered the cashier. But the bandits arc still at lnrge, although al-though their capture or death is but a matter of a few hours. At dawn today the officers came upon tho bandits In camp on the Grey Bull river, sixty-five miles from tho scene of last ovcnlilg's battle. The robbers refused re-fused to surrender and put up a hard light Tho horse of ono of the officers was killed and some of the men had narrow nar-row escapes. Tho robbers succeeded in getting away The posso followed slowly, because of the necessity of avoiding a possible ambuscade. The outlaws wero again overtaken on Enos creek, thirty miles from Meeteetao and eighty miles from Cody, and another an-other light occurred. One of the bandits was wounded in tho thigh, but his companion com-panion hoisted him Into his saddle and after a running light for four miles tho outlaws again got away A courier came Into Mectectsee tonight with the news that the murderers had been surrounded In a forest on Common-wood Common-wood creek and that their capture Is likely like-ly to occur at any time. The outlaws had been called upon to surrender, but refused re-fused to come forth. Col. Cody arrived at Cody this evening with his Indian trailers, scouts and cowboys, cow-boys, accompanied by a party of English noblemen and New York clubmen. Cody will lake the trail of the outlaws at once. His guests have bvon Invited to accompany accom-pany hlrn and some of the younger men and members of tho party will accept. |
