Show 1 STENOGRAPHERS' CLUB PERFECTS ORGANIZATION The stenographers, under the namo of the Stcnos' club, held their meeting at tho Barnacle Thursday evening. The club Is headed by many well-known stenographers of this city, and below aro tho names of the members holding office: President, J. E. "Williams, secretary to C. F. McNItt, auditor of the Oregon I Short Line; vice-president, L. It. Smlthen. with tho Smlth-Prcmlcr Typewriter company; recording secretary, secre-tary, Miss Rose Smlthen, with the Western Newspaper Union; corre sponding secretary, Paul Nolan, secretary' secre-tary' to S. V. Derrah, assistant general freight agent of the Denver & Rio Grande; treasurer, Bert Margetts, secretary sec-retary to E. W. Glllett, general passenger passen-ger agent San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt Lake; chairman of programme committee. Miss Daisy Wolfgang, with auditor of the Oregon Short Line; pressman, J. Harvey Ashby, with the Utah Stove & Hardware company. Several new members were present, and all took an active part In the meeting. meet-ing. The club Is rapidly coming to the front, and the members feel doubly repaid re-paid for their efforts toward the organ-; organ-; Izatlon. President J. 13. Williams made some very Interesting remarks as to the good to be derived by the stenographers binding themselves together In a social and literary club. After all business had been disposed of, the Barnacle was turned Into a concert hall, and popular songs and music filled the air until a late hour. At the next meeting some prominent people In shorthand circles will address the club, and the members look forward for-ward to a very enjoyable and prollta-ble prollta-ble evening. The programme committee commit-tee ha3 also been at work and will en tertain tho club after the regular business busi-ness has been transacted. The business men are ln favor of the movement, nnd It will not be long before be-fore tho club will have the support of all pcoplo Interested In shorthand and typewriting. Members need not fear that they will be bound by any union rules, as the club will have no union 1 principles ln Its government. Its object ob-ject Is to promote better work among the profession, to bring the members Into closer social relations and to take care of Its members out of employment. employ-ment. The next meeting will be held at the Barnacle, In Kendall square, next Thursday evening. The club extends a hearty Invitation to all stenographers and promises a good time to all. |
