Nearly SCO athletes, representing 150 educational edu-cational Institutions, wcro on tho pro-grammo pro-grammo to try conclusions In tho thirty-eight thirty-eight events. Harvard, Yalo. Georgetown, George-town, Pennsylvania, Columbia and Chicago Chi-cago were entered In tho onc-mllo relay race, which brought together tho faatbst quarter-mllers In the country. Because of tho speed of tho Pennsylvania runners In tho two-mile race, all other teams entered for this event wcro withdrawn. Tho four-mllo four-mllo relay race was a battlo royal, in which Michigan and Purduo, representing the West, met Princeton, Yale, Harvard, Pennsylvania and Columbia. The best sprinters In the East and "West met in the 100-yard dash. Schick of Harvard, Har-vard, Sears of Cornell, llahn of Michigan and Blalr of Chicago, each of whom has gono tho distance in 9 4-5 seconds, wero among tho contestants. Arthur Duffy, who holds tho world's record of l) 2-5 seconds, sec-onds, was withdrawn. Thousands of Spectators. Ideal weather conditions favored tho sports, and as a result fully 12,000 persons wero present. The track was in splendid condition. Tho first four events on tho programmo were one-mile relay races for tho Grammar school championship of Philadelphia. Then followed four moro one-mile relay races In tho high school class.
