Show KfNTUCK CHVAlRY AROUSED WRONG LADY TO CTTRTSTSIT ITS BATTLESHIP Governor Bradley Selects His Daughter Daugh-ter Over the Head of Eattie Bainbridge Bain-bridge Richardson Lexington Ivy Dec Governor William O Bradley stirred up a hornets hor-nets nest when he announced Sunday that he would appoint his daughter Miss Chrystine sponsor for the new battleship Kentucky and that she j 1 I would break a bottle over Its prow when it is launched next January I About a year ago a commotion was I created in the W C T U by the publication pub-lication of a story stating that Miss Hattie Bainbridge Richardson would break a bottle of Kentucky whisky over the prow of the Kentucky when it was launched Petitions poured into Secretary Secre-tary Herbert praying that he would I I not allow wh sk to be used for alw whisky christening i I christ-ening the vessel Now the whole mat i ter is brought up again by Governor Bradley declaring his intention of choosing his daughter to christen the shipMiss Miss Richardson is angry over the declared intention of Governor Bradley Brad-ley and has given out the following signed statement to the public I am urged to speak of the discourtesy discour-tesy I have been shown in this matter by Governor Bradley stating that he i I would appoint his daughter to christen the Kentucky I also object to the I 1 manner in which he and his friends I have gone about securing the appointment I appoint-ment of his daughter When I was asked by Secretary Herbert to christen I the Kentucky I was by that honor placed before the public I received hundreds of congratulations from patriotic i I i pat-riotic Kentuckians the highest officers j of the army and navy and from my j friends everywhere The administration I I I administra-tion of course has changed and Secretary I Sec-retary Herbert is not now in office otce I have felt in the matter that I had I been asked to christen the battleship J i and it would be an act of courtesy to I I have the honor unchanged When Governor j Gov-ernor Bradley takes the laurel from my head and places it upon that of his daughter just because he thinks he ha the power to do so I blush for the discourtesy of the governor of Kentucky Ken-tucky Miss Richardson is one of the handsomest hand-somest as well as brilliant young women wo-men of the state She has spent much of her time in Brooklyn and Boston and is well known in naval circles She is descended from revolutionary stock being the great niece of Commodore Bainbridge and the great granddaughter granddaugh-ter of William Hall Richardson Her father was the late William Hall Richardson Rich-ardson of this city and her mother Jane Storeskamp a belle and heiress of note |
