black as to shut out all vIew of a future but all is now changed Never before could I look forward with hopes of so brIght a future Iore work has been don the past summer than ever before I be-fore and the expectation In ever instance stance hasheen realized People are profiting by their past failures The railroad will beheme before spring and next summer promises to be the greatest great-est season this camp has ever seen The Famous Wedge The property tat attracted the most attention the past season by reason ot thealue exposed was the Wedge In cOrortec under the name of The Wedge Gold MinIng Milling company of which George Sutherland is presi iI aenL its pnnclpa place 01 DUSlleS I In Sat Lake City I owns two claims or rate one claim and a fraction About seventy feet east of the dlco cry they cut the vein with a tunnel In which they struck a steak about afoot a-foot wide ot rich ore from which they received assays as high as 30000 They drifted about twentyfe feet on the vein and aco sunk a winze about thhtfve feet exposing this same rich ore above and below At the bottom or the winze It had widened out to nearly three feet The vein Is about ten feet wide where they csed I which was about sixty feet from the mouth of the tunnel I Is a true fissure with trackte walls Since they have gone lower down and started another tunnel in which they are now In about 250 feet and expect to tap the vein within the net twen tfve feet at a depth of 187 f et This company is paying Its own way without mang any assessments and when the mine is properly opened up It can work with small cot Ore from he winze brought about 3000 which has pad for all development this far This seasons work has exposed a large quantity ot highgade ore that will be marketed when they get ready The owners otthls property have a bonanza and are entitled to dulge In great e petatons They have done a great amount of work the pat summer and expect to do much more next Pbe Dalton By reason ot the fact that this Is a close corporation In the respect that they keep their own counsel I Is dln cult tD get information that would be of value to the public The past year the company has kept from four to fifteen men at work sinking and drifting drift-Ing which Is a good sign They must hae something In view to warrant this expenditure Your correspondent Is assured as-sured by reliable parties who have via ie this property the past season that they have a number of tonspossibly a carload of highgrade ore already sacked ready for shipment A big strIke was made on this property sv erlyear ago and a number of men were made rich thereby Since thejl they have lot the vein This ore they I have taken out the past season Is from another vein It Is understood which was recently discovered They have lag of lo gde ore which with the rhht kind of a plarit on the ground could b tr e at handsome profit This promises to become a very valuable property some day The Elephant This 19 a new company incorporated last fall I owns three claims and a fraction Its east end lines join the wet line of the Wedge and its north lines come within abut 600 feet of the Dalton The mineral veins from both thee properties must ruts through this group of claims For ihls r aSon this property is sure tD be herd from In the future Besides they have recently recent-ly uncovered a tenfoot vein that runs in the direction of the Wedge and carries car-rIes much the same character of ore which leads the owner to hope for great results when developed As the have only uncovered the top of the vein no Idea can now be formed of the t1 L L 11d1U = U UULU1U A UUU1Utl UJ UU outs on this same vein on this group lead the owners to believe they have a bonanza As very rich ore only occurs In ore chutes at the surface they believe be-lieve their values will not be all found at one place on their property This part of the camp has been neglected In the pastand is about wholy undeveloped undevel-oped op The Daisy This property Is owned by W F Warock of this place and William Hanna of Monmouth Ill I has two good veins each about a foot wIde I from which assays have been received that run 400 In gold and 288 ounces silver These veins have never been sampled but Mr Warnock believes that If this ore was properly sorted hey could ship The past year they ex pended abut iOO In opening up their property and the appear thoroughly satisfied with the showing made They do not Intend attempting to ship until they get their claim developed when If their ore holds the present values they hope I will become a regular producer i The Copper Belt I This is an old property that was shut don on acount of litigation some fit teen year ago During that time the timbers rotted and It cave In filling the shaft almost to the surface They finally got their law suit settled and last spring Bartholomew Fraee of Victor Cob took i under bond and leas They transferred a part of their bond and lease to Colorado capitalists since which time they have been workIng work-Ing steadily cleaning out and retmber ing the old shaft that IS ported to be 2 feet They are now down 245 feet I but have gone Just a far as they can with the facilities at their command Professor Lamb who has been looking after the Intest of these Colorado parties left the frt of December fur Denver to purchase the machinery for a hoist This machinery Is expected now In a few days when It will be place In position and work will again I proceed as rapidly a possible Previous Ious I-ous to the time when this property was forced to shut down by litigation it was a great producer and shipped a large quantity of highgrade ore at a time too when the ore had to be hauled I haul-ed by team from 10 to 150 miles Without With-out doubt net year the name of this mine ducer wIbe on the ls of Utah pro T Crystal This property was sOldby the United States court last June and bid in for 1Ir Burns cour prvate secretary of Dr Webb of the New York Central railroad rail-road Consideration about OOOO But a small force re empUyed and they are kept conttity employed In running run-ning tunnels or doing work that will be beneficial In the future It I pot expected ex-pected they wU find anything u t after net February when the perIod of redemption expires A large force may be at work next Hlmme Wedge Etn This company has six claimS that join the eat end line of the Wedge and extend oth Two parallel vein cross the prer < lengthwise One of the veins Is abouffour feet wide at the surface sur-face and at one place on the other itj 19 about thirty feet wide Both veins carry gold but as they have slot sun on either vein their values are undetermined I termined On the surface It is neces tl 5tace sruy sow ADOU + iUU was expenaeu the past season In development mostly on a tunnel but as they have not gone far enough to tap the vein 10thing as yet has ben deonstated Judging from surface indications this should become a valuable property Aurora This clam Is located about 2500 feet nrth of the Wedge Itha a well thin eralzed vein abut three feet wide from which some highgrade ore has been taken They are now inkIng on the vein and this shaft is down about thIrty feet The past season they erected erect-ed a cabin and blacksmith shop In all they have expended about 60 In development devel-opment Glen Eyrie This w know In the pat as the Chattanooga I has produced some wonderfully rich ore One season Jake Sargent dld the assessment work for what ore heThtuld te out ot a ten foot shatwhi h 1ea to sin and It we are or tlyinform d henever was a well iitd for th1Fam u t of work This property Is now owned exclu pively by ian Packard ofSpringle who purchased l the other interests i A forcE of men las been constantly employed the patJeason In running a tunnel and snking a shaft A new steam hoist Is nearly complete to fa cItate work on the shaft The building build-Ing Is erected alt the machinery 15 on the ground and mostly set up and will be running full las irma day or two Their tunnel i5 finished about 300 feet Much god ore Is exposed In both the shaft and tunnel Besides erecting a large seam hoist they have also built a large commodious commodi-ous boarding house bunk houses and other buildings necessary for the operation op-eration of mine on an extensive sale Mr Packard has ben very successful In his mining ventures and If he has mad a mistake it Is not known The best evidence of what he think o this property Is the money he Is spending In its developme I lie owns large Interests in-terests In some of thebet mine In the state and he intends making this a great producer ii thJnearfuture SurrsC rjue I This property joins the Wedge on the south They have alargeveln crossing the claim and assays taken from the surface give good value They nave been running a tunnel to dross the vein at a depth of abou1O0 Ieet but they have not tapped th vein yet They have expended about 500 In development develop-ment the past season They think the end of thIs tunnel Is close to the vein yen and will no doubt cross It when they are able to go to work again In the spring 4 Eagle This claim lays about 1000 feet north of the Wee They have run two tunnels tun-nels the past season and have a shaft started which 1s down about twenty feet I make a most excellent showIng show-Ing They have a vein of ore abut four en lnces vide which shows through the tunnel and In shaft Ore taken from this vein has assayed a high a iOo In gold to the ton The I owners of this property expended about lCOO In development the past season I Webster This is one M the old properties and has quite an extensiVe lstory In early daf they shipped 1 large quantity of ore and at a tme when they had haul It In wagons to uab the nearest railroad point a distance of ninety miles The have a tunnel that follows their vein in a distance of 1700 feet Between Be-tween walls the vein is sixty feet wide but the ore In width varies greatly There Is ore all te way along the tunnel tun-nel which passes through thee chimneys chim-neys About a quarter of a million dollars dol-lars worth of ore was taken from this property early days and large quan titles left In the mine They have a tenstamp mIl don In the valley but were unable tp save values sufficient to justify its running nan Packard J A Odbert anl W E Holdeman have recently secure a twoyers bond and lease on thIs prqpert agreeing to erect a new mill invthe canyon neal the I dump Lumber is now being hauled up there for that purpose They will employ em-ploy a large torce of men ns son as they get this mm built and will put on a small forcethls1nter when their boarding house and cabll are fnl he to tae out ore They are working now on this building Wen the mine sets to working a full force It will add greatly great-ly country to the prosperity of this part of the Ion Ore 3 A Odbert of Lincoln Neb has been here most of the pnt summer A ledge of Iron ore passing across the valley about two miles north of this town attracted his attention and as I was open he located a number of claims along 1e The ore has been tested uuuu UIJU soc Ue In smelters In fact Iron ore they must have to treat certain other ores After finding a market the prIce they would pay would not be suIclent to meet all the expenses of getting the ore to the smelters including a haul by team Of nine miles to Belknap but since the railroads coming to the Vale 15 an assured as-sured fact this promises to become a great industry He has had a nuxnJer a men at work for several zonths opening I up to see how much there was of It The vein widens out rapidly as hey go down and now enough work has been done to demonstrate the fact I that he has almost an unlimited quan t The ore too Is of a very high gradealmost as pure as It is ever found ThIs promises to be another anoter big thing for arsvale |
