turing line Especially I this true of the Sat Le pants The production of these plant was not only increased from lQ to 20 per cent alt around during the year but the demand was for p better class of brick than had ben manufactured for several years previous previ-ous The people ot Sat Lake particularly partic-ularly and ot Utah generally the brick manufacturers say have shown ample evidence during the year that they arc morq prosperous than they have ever ben before More attention is beIng paid to the external appearance appear-ance of brIck building and thIs leads the brick manufacturers to believe the volume of trade In their tine wilt soon be restore to what it was during former for-mer boom years In this belief they are justified by the fact that more large brIck buildings were erected during dur-Ing the past twelve months than for quite a number of years past while several more are now under course ot sever coure construction i huf Such is the condition of trade In this I line that the manufacturers have erected erect-ed new kilns and dryers and I Is almost al-most certain that the sundrng method wilt be abolished as It is too Slow Sow I Is estimated that the entire production pro-duction of the Salt Lake brIck yards durIng he year 1899 was 180000 made up of about an equal lot of pressed and common brIck The greater portion of this product was made by two companies com-panies the Salt Lake Pressed Brick company and he Enterprise Brick company both of whose plants are situated close to the city At the beginning be-ginning of 1599 the various companies had abut 35000 brIck on hand Since that time the Salt Lake Pressed Brick company has manufactured 10000000 I the Enterprise company 6500000 whIle i HI iw I the outnut of ths rnnllsr rilani vIl aggregate 1500000 addii aCTh market mar-ket value of the product durIng 1899 was about 12500 At the beginning of 190 It Is estimated there Is only about 50000 brIck left In the manufacturer manu-facturer hands with which to supply begIn the trade until the net seasons fire I Altogether the brIck manufacturing plants of the city afford employment to 175 men who earn from 150 to 350 per day While the larger companies are devoted de-voted exclusively to the manufacture of building brIck Elias Morris Co manufacture a fire brick which Is fast wInning a reputation In this and the Srroundng states to whIch a goo portion of the Utah brick output Is shipped The production of 1899 while greater than for years Iat doe not really represent the true magnitude of the brIck plats of the city The Salt Lake Pressed BrIck company alone has facilities for turing out 100000 brIck daily while the other yards are just as large In proportion but the condition con-dition of the market wi not justify I operation at full capacity SAT LAKE BREWERIES AND BOTTLING WORKS Report the Most Prosperous Year in Ctys History The four breweries of Salt Lake City have enjoyed the most prosperous
