Show AT MILL CREEK How the Denizens of Our Neteliboriiis Suburb Celebrated lay Day I May 1 was the day selected to hold a t sociable reunion of the members of this ward I Some time ago the young men of the ward purchased a set of brass instruments and organized a band with K E Miller as j I I president and Professor Win Morns as bandmaster They have made great progress pro-gress and to encourage them tho people donated sufficient tohave a band wagon made for them which project was carried into effect by James K Millers brders and I it was built at John A Hills shop at Mill j Creek costing anout five hundred dollars I seating about twenty four persons It was presented to the band yesterday The i members dressed in new uniforms of navy i blue clotn and trimmed with gold lace and I ccrd made a fine appearance Each organization of the ward was represented I rep-resented and seated in tho wagon At the i I ward house the following exercises were 1 rendered under the directions of the marshal mar-shal of the day It G Miller Opening prayer by G B Bailey Introductory remarks by Thomas W Russell Music by the band Crowning of tho May Queen Miss Lulu Murphy by Mrs Nellie Cornwall with a speech and a response by the queen of tho day who with her maids of honor looked very beautiful Music by the band Tho presentation of the band wagon was made through John Cook on behalf of the ward and received by Ed R Miller on behalf of the band in a very appropriate speech Music Then the young ladies through their president Mrs Clara Carlisle presented a beautiful banner made of crimson and old gold colored velvet and bearing in silver letters the words Mill Creek Progress Band by which name it is now known The banner was received on behalf of the band by Mr Joseph A Cornwall who Tnfirln n fittinrr c ollnh luuuwf It u 11UK O GlVLl Music by the band and speeches by Jens j Hansen John A Hill and by James R Miller teamster of the day who manipu lated the lines like a skillful Jehu The ceremonies wore then changed by I the company entering the large ward house and seating themselves along three long tables loaded with the comforts of I life and in a sociable manner justice was done to the inner man After dinner a very pleasant programme was rendered consisting of songs recitations recita-tions and music for one hour when recessj was taken the seats removed and dancing was in order by the juveniles which was greatly appreciated and enjoyed by them In the evening a ball was given for the adults and the members of the band in their new suits cut a decided shine MILL CHEEK May 2 G B B I |
