Show MEN I A BOAT A Pretty Pickle In Denver No Matter What the Outcome DENVER May 2Special telegram tom to-m HERALD The board of public works of the city of Denver have placed themselves them-selves in a nice box A great deal of friction fric-tion developed during tho last year between be-tween the city council which made all the appropriations np the board of public works which spent many of them To obviate this and to place the entire matter in their own hands the board sent a bUl through the legislature providing that they should have exclusive control of the funds for their use and that they should have control of their own engineer and that tho latter should be paid out of the general fund of the city It now transpires that the city has no general fund left the last city government having gotten away with the whole business Thus tho board can have no work done for they can employ no engineer t do their surveying With fciOOOOO into them at the last election they can do nothing until next summer Fort For-t one year they can merely cool their heels against the rungs of their chairs and wait Hon Edward O Wolcott senator from Colorado has been selected to preside at the meeting in Atlanta Ga t unveil a monument to the honor of the late Henry Grady Governor Hill of New York is to deliver the address In inviting Senator Wolcott the committee paid him the high A compliment of being the only northern senator who had stood up for the southern people and southern interests and they wished to thus express to him their profound pro-found gratitude to him for this act His position and speeches cn the silver question ques-tion were also highly commended |
