Show FINANCE AND MINING The Deep Creek Boom Wanetk Not but Groweth I LEAD AND SILVER BOTH HIGHER The Clearing House Trade East and at Home Nc rs from Many Utah Hines A General Review Deep Creek continues to Be the theme in mining haunts There has been less said in the newspapers during the past week than heretofore it is true but this does not indicate that the interest has at all abated On the contrary interest in that rich section of Utah is growing daily and all reports received especially from Dug way and Flail Springs are of the most encouraging en-couraging nature There are craukers of course One tenderfoot whose prospecting prospect-ing heretofore never led him outside of tee sacred precincts of a country pathway has returned and filled the columns of his village paper with horrible stories to tbe effect that food was scarce and the water unfit to drink and that there was no oro in the country save here and there I This merely goes to prove the correctness of Tnn HERALDS proposition proposi-tion that the Deep Creek country vas no place for the Pullman car prospectors that the men who havent nerve enough to do without chainapgne on ice and stuffed turkey have no business to start out on a prospecting tour either to Deep Creek or elsewhere But it doesnt prove that the I Deep Creek country is not full of good ore I The general business of the city seems to 1 have improved somewhat during the week i There is some cause for complaint however how-ever in certain lines but merchants are I of the opinion that this will vanish in a very few days Money is scarce and collections col-lections are slow although reports received re-ceived from collectors during the first two days of the present month are rather more encouraging tnan they were a month ago The produce market has been and now is very active as will have been seen from the weekly reports furnished by a well known authority Real estate sales have been from fair to middling a slight improvement being noticeable no-ticeable The atock exchange was quiet during the earlier part of theweek business picking up fairly well toward tho close The building Loom knows no cessation and during the week just closed several new structures have been projected and work recommenced on those started last fallThe The opening of the Hotel Morgan has been one of the features and this is to be followed in a short time by the housewarmIng housewarm-Ing of the handsome and commodious Knutsford Reports from various parts of the territory terri-tory are to the effect that the outlook for crops is excellent The moving of wheat now going on will soon have the effect of putting more money in circulation and thus allow the grangers to meet all bills Collections from county points at present are fair only Lead and Silver Both metals have been on the upgrade during theweek Lead opened at 412M rose to S420 on Wednesday and closed at that figero last evading Silver opened attTX rose to flTJg to 99 < fell to 97roso to 9S and closed at 99 I Good Prospects for SaUna The Salina Gold and Silver Mining and Smelting company has now attained an important im-portant attitude A number of experienced business men of Salt Lake city having taaen hares I in the mine and being at the present time at work personally seems to indicate beyond a doubt that there is considerable importance attached to the property Something over three tons of hydraulic machinery have already been placed upon the claim and our informant is reliably informed that the work of 1 placer mining will begin not later than the 1st of July As to the quality of the ground to be worked a thorough test has proven it to be worth from 25 cents to 250 per yard Mr S D N Bennett is superintendent superinten-dent That Gold strike A number of men have been put to work on the property of the Gold Mountain Mining Min-ing company which is located near the mouth of Big Cottonwood canon The Nebo Mines Reports of the most encouraging nature Continue to reach us from the Nebo mines Specimens from the East Side Consolidated were received in this city yesterday which came from an immense vein The assays returned about 190 silver 75 lead and 030 gold Nephi will yet be heard from in no uncertain manner Eastern Money Markets The money markets are generally undisturbed undis-turbed and comparatively easywith fair to brisk demand at many points and a little stringency at one or two Collections appear ap-pear to improve though rather slowly The treasury continues to pay out more than it takes in though but little this week the net addition to the circulation being about 500000 But although more gold has been sent abroad the Bank of England did not advance its rate and bankers who have been shipping to Germany report the demand de-mand satisfied for the present Foreign trade shows an increase of 106 per cent over last year in exports from New York for April thus far while in imports there is a decrease of about 6 per cent but there are renewed signs of foreignselling of securities on the recent rise and it is not to be expected that large gold exports in the summer can be prevented unl ess breadstuffs so decline as to po rmit a free movement prior to June Trade in the East < The merchandise movement at Boston has been fair in wool slightly larger without with-out much change in goods and in boots and shoes with better reports from agents while leather and hides are quiet Trade In lumber is very fair and prices firm At Philadelphia the coal and iron trades are more active and tho hardware trade outside the city jewelry and paints somewhat Improve Im-prove the chemical trade is fair and glass liquors and tobacco are quiet Worsted mills are running lull time at good prices and knit goods have a very satisfactory season butin woolen yarn and goods trade is dull and unprofitable At Hertford it is noted that goods dqnot justify the higher prices said to be asked for the increased clip of wooL At Baltimore trade is only fair but manufactures active and at Cleveland better weather brings some improvement with unusual activity in manufactured iron Cincinnati also notes improvement and great activity In building and materials and Detroit finds better trade with better country roads At Chicago wool receipts gain a third over last year and wheat receipts are larger but decrease appears in flour corn meats lard and hides Dry goods sales equal last year for the same week and sales of clothing and shoes show increase The grip retards trade at Milwaukee but further improvement improve-ment is seen at St Louis trade is fair at Kansas City and Omaha and better at Denver Cotton is quiet and lower at New Orleans and sugar active and lower general trade being fair At Savannah trade slackened slightly and is rather dull t Jacksonville but extensive investments I in phosphates with heavy shipments cause activity in the part of the state where there ara deposits Business Failures The
