Show John S. Murdock succumbs; honored at services Prominent farmer and livestockman John Simeon Murdock, 91, died June 9 at the Valley View Medical Center of causes incident to age. He was born in Joseph, Sevier County, May 8, 1883 to Gideon Allen and Luanda Elvira Howd Murdock, Pioneers in the southern Utah area. He has spent most of his life in Minersville where he was engaged in the livestock and farming industries. He served as Beaver County Commissioner and as County Assessor for one term. Murdock was also president of Minersville Irrigation Company, was a board member of the Itocky Ford Irrigation Company and a board member of the Beaver County Irrigation Company. He was instrumental in buying the Minersville Reservoir for the people of Minersville in 1949. From 1913 to 1915 the Minersville Reservoir was under construction. Murdock contracted and built many miles of ditches through the Milford Valley, known as the Flat. Funeral services were held June 13 in the Minersville School. Burial was in the Beaver Cemetery. Mr. Murdock attended the Murdock Academy at Beaver and Brigham Young University at Provo. After retiring in 1960 the Murdocks moved to Cedar City where they resided at 83 North 100 West. He married Ella Dotson in 1908 in Beaver. She died Jan. 20, 1920; married Eloise Pryor. Survivors include a son and daughters: Mrs. Vilda Smith, Provo; Mrs. O.A. (Jennie) Meburg, Amsterdam, Mo.; Mrs. Clinton (Donna) Boyter, Roseburg, Ore.; Mrs. Mac (Edith) Armstrong, Cedar City and Ray S. Murdock, Oakland, Ore. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, grand-children, 18 great grandchildren and a brother, Edmond H. Murdock, Salt Lake City. |
