Show GHS wrestlers-win 'BEAVER Gunnison walked away from the resit: of the field in the . Region 12 Wrestling meet here last weekend, scoring 168 points to easily outdistance Wayne and North Sevier, the second and third place schools respectively. Several Iron and Beaver County wrestlers fared very well in region ' competition, though the highest team finish from any school in the two counties was a fifth-place finish by Milford. Beaver ended up in eighth place and Parowan was ninth. The Region 12 event conducted Friday and Saturday, and final matches took place Saturday evening. The top four finishers in each weight class qualified for Utah State 1-A competition this weekend at Weber State College. In the 112 pound division, Beaver's Shane Erickson captured fourth-place honors and thus qualified for state competition this weekend. Reagan Puffer, Milford, placed second at 126 pounds to also qualify for state. Puffer lost a decision to Jay Yardley in the finals to spoil his bid lor a region title. Also at 126, Pa rowan's Randy Robinson defeated Jim Tolbert 12-11 to garner a third place region finish. Matt Pearson of Milford defeated Kevin Sorensen to earn third in the 138-pound class. Pearson's victory was attained by decision. At 145 pounds, Brett Yardley of Beaver whipped Kanab's Mike Geiger to finish third. David White of Milford downed Blaine Jensen in the battle for third at 167 pounds. At 185 pounds, Leanny Johnson won a region crown as he narrowly defeated Moky Christensen by a 3-2 score. Parowan's Chad Robinson earned a fourth-place finish at 185 pounds. Milford had another "Tiger" in the heavyweight division, as Bill Manhard downed Justin Ekker to capture another region crown for the Tigers. Manhard won a narrow 6-4 decision over Ekker to capture the championship and help move Milford into a fifth-place fifth-place finish. |
