Show Vernal's July 24th celebration announced Vernal's 24th of July celebration has historically had two purposes, to honor the first settlers to Utah and to raise funds for the Boy Scouts of America. This year will be no exception, although the festivities will be July 25, since July 24 is a Sunday. The festivities of the day will begin with breakfast at the ball park Bicentennial Pavilion at 6 a.m. and continue unitl 10 a.m. Cost of the breakfast will be $3.75 per person, $7.50 for up to three people, and a maximum max-imum of $15 for an entire family. A flag raising ceremony will be at the pavilion at 6:45 a.m. Two distance foot races will begin at 7 a.m. One will be a 5 mile run and the other a 2 mile run. Registration will be held between 6:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. Both races will begin at the pavilion. This is intended to be a family fami-ly event. Prizes will be given to winning winn-ing families, as well as individuals in different age groups. For more information infor-mation about the races, people may call Glen Allred at 789-2196. A parade, featuring the Provo High School marching band, will begin at 10 a.m. and proceed down First North, from 500 East to the high school. Judging Judg-ing of floats will occur prior to the parade, beginning at 9 a.m. After the parade, the Provo High School marching band will perform at the pavilion. At this time winners of the races and parade will be' announced. Festivities continue throughout the day at the park and pavilion. There will be an archery contest, a shoot out, a chain saw rivalry between Egor and Olaf, ultralight aircraft demonstrations, demonstra-tions, and cannon fire throughout the day. The ultralights will drop ping pong ball, many of which will have prizes written on them. The balls can be redeemed as specified. All of the money raised by all of the day's activities will go to the Boy Scouts. |
