The pond adds excitement for the people dining at the lodge. Parents often enjoy watching their children catch fish while they are enjoying their own fresh trout dinner. There is only one place in the Uintah Basin where you can "sit in a dining din-ing room and watch your kids catch fish." The place is Red Canyon Lodge. Red Canyon Lodge is on the shore of beautiful Green's Lake with cabins nestled among the pines. It is located one mile from Utah Highway 44 on the Red Canyon Visitor Center Road, one mile from the rim of Red Canyon overlooking Flaming Gorge Lake, 11 miles from Flaming Gorge Dam and Cedar Springs boat ramp, and 18 miles from Sheep Creek boat ramp. The normal operating season for Red Canyon Lodge runs from May 1 to November 1. In 1899 a traveler located several lakes near the Green River (which is now Flaming Gorge). These lakes were named after him; Green's Lakes. The Green's Lakes are privately controlled and permits are obtained at the lodge before fishing (state licenses are not required). Rowboats and canoes are available or you own row boat or raft may be used. us-ed. Gasoline motors are not allowed at Green's Lakes, thus the area keeps its peaceful atmosphere. At Green's Lake eight cabins are equipped with beds, table, chairs, and small wood stoves used for heating and cooking. These cabins can be rented for a minimal fee from Red Canyon Lodge. The lake is open to private fishing and a from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. for meals throughout the day. GEORGE SLAUGH of Vernal holds a 12 pound German brown which he caught at the Red Fleet Reservoir recently. Chad Crosby of the Utah Divison of Wildlife Resources in Vernal, Ver-nal, reported that Slaugh's catch is the bigyest fish ever caught at Red Fleet Reservoir. |
