Saturday, but the Cubs out scored the Braves, 19 to 0 in the rest of the game to break the three-way tie for first place due to a 20-7 victory. The Braves, Cubs and Yankees tied first place honors during the regular season. A 1-0 lead was gained by the Cubs in the top of the first inning on a run by Stacy Hadlock. Jeff Jackson doubled with two outs and Hadlock scored the Cubs' first run in the ball game. Two runs were scored by the Braves in the bottom of the first inning for a 2-1 lead. John Sadlier reached first base on an error and Bobby Roberts singled to drive in Sadlier. Chad Anderson and Marty Wood flied out to Cub centerfielder, Travis Carroll. Steve Labrum was walked and Roberts scored and Jerry Hardman motored to first base on an error. The final batter struck out. The first two Cub batters in the top of the second inning, Carroll and Kyle Bennion got on the base paths, but they also committed the first two outs of the inning. Carroll was walked and Bennion Ben-nion was hit by the pitcher. Carroll took a huge lead off second base and got caught in a run down. Bennion motored to second base and Carroll was tagged out. Bennion decided to return to first base and was tagged out for a doubleplay. Greg Young struck out to end the inning. Five runs in the bottom of the second inning presented a 7 to 1 lead to the Braves. Fred Coats reached first base on an error and Sadlier was hit by the pitcher. Roberts walked and an error paced Anderson on the base paths and scored Sadlier. Coats committed the first out when he was tagged out. Wood siiled to load up the bases and Roberts scored when Jamie Thacker was walked. Labrum advanced to first base on a fielder's choice when the Cub shortstop fired the ball to home plate, but failed to nip the runner as Anderson Ander-son scored for the Braves. A walk to Hardman sent home Wood and a free pass to Danny Fountaine enabled Thacker to cross home plate with a 7-1 lead. Coats struck out and the third out was gained when a runner run-ner was forced out at third base. The Braves' advantage was reduced reduc-ed to three runs w hen the Cubs scored three runs in the top of the third inning inn-ing to make the score, 7 to 4, in favor of the Braves. George Murphy motored to first base on a high throw to the bag with two outs. Lee Jenkins knocked in Murphy with a double and Jeff Jackson reached first on an error. A single by Quinn Bennion drove in Jenkins and Jackson. Zero runs w ere scored by the Braves in the bottom of the third inning, but the Cubs w eren't held scoreless as they erupted for five runs in the top of the fourth inning for a 9-7 lead. Kyle Bennion Ben-nion was walked and Hadlock singled with two outs. A single by Murphy knocked in Bennion. Jenkins singled in Hadlock and an inside the park homer, which was actually a single and errors, er-rors, presented a 9 to 7 lead to the Cubs. An error placed Labrum on first base, but the next two runners committed com-mitted outs number two and three and thus the Braves were blanked in the bottom of the fourth inning.
