Uintah Basin has been without moisture now for almost six weeks. The Ashley National Forest is in an explosive condition as a result of 25 rainless days. High winds and warm nights have increased the fire hazard considerably. All personnel on the Ashley National Forest have been alerted to the fire danger and are on the alert twenty-four hours each day. This dozen men, however, can't do the job alone. They must depend upon the active assistance and help from the hundreds who use the forest during these summer months. Travel to the Utah Field House of Natural History up to July 1st, has increased in-creased by 4,137 persons over the same period last year, according to G. E. Untermann, director. Allred Tire Sales officially opens at 28 South 3rd West in Vernal Saturday, according to owner and manager Charles Allred. Twenty-three Uintah County Boy Scouts and their leaders will leave Utah Saturday for the annual national jamboree of the Boy Scouts of America at- Corona Del Mar, California. Directors of the Vernal Chamber of Commerce will hold next Wednesday's board meeting somewhere along the Vernal-Manila highway as guests of Ashley National Forest Sci rice. Two small fires have been reported on Ashley National Forest during the past week. Both are now under control. With approximately $125,000 shown in the completed plans of the National Park Service to be expended in the next three years in the construction of roads and trails, necessary buildings and parking space and a museum over the dinosaur quarry, the start on the long looked for development of the famous Dinosaur Monument will be accomplished. Forty bucking horses, bulldogging, plain and fancy roping, and riding are the attractions of the Blue Mountain rodeo, which is to be held on July 24th at Haslem's Grove near Jensen. In one of the most beautiful meadows of the Ashley National Forest, located nearly 10,000 feet above sea level at the foot of Mt. Lookout on the divide between the Yellowstone and Lake Fork rivers the Uintah Basin Boy Scouts of Tim-panogos Tim-panogos Council will enjoy a four day encampment commencing next Monday. At the special meeting of the Uintah district of the Timpanogos Council, Boy Scouts of America, held Monday evening to complete plans for the annual an-nual encampment from July 17 to 21 near Mt. Lookout, it was reported that every troop would be represented. Monday, July 24th, Vernal will join in celebrating Pioneer Day with a parade at 10 a.m. showing a pageantry pagean-try in miniature of the early Utah pioneer struggles. The Vernal First Ward Sunday School will be in charge of the parade. Much preparation is being be-ing made to make this parade one of the best ever held in Vernal. Martin W. Curtis, Uintah county treasurer, issued the first receipt for the partial payment of 1933 taxes to Ether Pitt of Vernal. Since Mr. Pitt made his payment five others have taken advantage of the provision to pay current and delinquent delin-quent taxes in partial payments. Taxes may be paid in any sum of not less than $10, unless a smaller sum is all the individual owes the county, in which case he would have to pay the entire tax less the discount provided by law for the month in which it was paid. |
