Cubs reach tfifile game on B-7 win over YanEis Hie Yankees beat the Braves, 24 to 12 Thursday, but the Yankees ended upon the losing side of the score, Friday Fri-day as they were nipped by the Cubs, I to 7. The win placed the Cubs in the championship game. An 8-0 lead was acquired by the Yankees in the top of the second inning inn-ing in the game Thursday with the Braves. Selwyn Simper was walked and Sticker singled. Pehrson singled and Atkinson was walked. Robb was walked and Dustin Woehrman singled. John Weber was walked and Simper singled. All eight runners scored to give the Yankees an 8-0 lead. One run was scored by the Braves in the bottom of the second inning on a run by Labrum, who was walked. The Yankees were blanked in the top ol the third inning, but the Braves were not as they scored six runs to cut the Yankee lead to one run at 8-7. '. Three runs in the top of the fourth inning in-ning increased the Yankee lead to four runs at 11 to 7. Roy Goodrich singled and came home on a homer by Selwyn Simper. Jimmy Strieker was walked and scored. The Braves cut the Yankee lead to two runs at 11-9 on two runs in the bottom bot-tom of the fourth inning. Sadlier singled singl-ed and scored on a double by Anderson. Ander-son. Wood knocked in Anderson on a single. A 16 to 9 lead was acquired by the Yankees in the top of the fifth inning on five runs. Woehrman singled and Weber was walked. Goodrich doubled ana simper gained his second homer in a row. Troy Murray was walked and scored on a single by David Senti. The Yankees grabbed a 5-0 lead in the top. of the first inning in a Friday night game against the Cubs, but the Cub crew rallied to win the game, 8 to 7. Weber was walked and scored on a double by Goodrich. Simper was walked walk-ed and Strieker singled. Murray delivered a double. Simper, Strieker and Murray scored. Pehrson produced produc-ed a single. One run was scored by the Cubs in the bottom of the second inning to slice the Yankee lead to four runs at 5-1. Kyle Bennion was walked and scored on a single by Shane Kavanaugh. The Yankees grabbed a 6-1 lead on one run in the top of the third inning by Strieker. The Yankees increased their lead to six runs at 7-1 when Simper ripped the baseball for a homer in the top of the fifth inning. Strieker connected for a double in the inning. Two runs by the Braves in the bottom of the fifth inning inn-ing reduce the Yankee lead to four runs at 7-3. Lee Jenkins singled and scored on a homer by Jeff Jackson. Yankee batters were struck out in the top of the sixth inning and the Cubs scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie up the game at 7-7. Greg Young and Jackson singled and scored. Quinn Bennion singled and Travis Carroll was walked. Both runners run-ners crossed home plate. Goodrich walked with one out in the top of the seventh inning and was tagged tagg-ed out at third base. Simper flied out for the third out. The Cubs scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning inn-ing for an 8-7 lead. Hadlock was walked, walk-ed, but was tagged out at third base.
