Show Bcautification needs city response Tremendous efforts have been put forth by the Cedar Cily Ilcaulificatioti Committee and by many other civic-minded organizations and individuals in an effort to beautify the community this year. For the committee to be completely successful it must have the full support of the entire community, including the city fathers and city government. It's true that Cedar City Corporation has pushed and is basically responsible for the tremendous efforts ef-forts currently being put into Main Street improvements. improve-ments. Although it is a hectic period of construction that is difficult to endure, we believe that the suffering suffer-ing will be worth the effort when the work is all com- pleted. However, city bcautification does not. necessarily start and stop on Main Street and the city has certainly cer-tainly let down in some other areas. One of the most noticeable eyesores to the community commu-nity at the present time is the Cedar City Municipal Park, the city maintained baseball fields and the cemetery which is likewise maintained by the city. The entire state is facing a dilemma in regard to the prolific dandelion crop, but the menace in Cedar City, particularly on the public parks is way beyond reason and somewhat without justification. In recent years the city has been able to spray the parks and cemetery to keep them comparatively free of dandelions, but this year apparently no effort ef-fort has been made to spray and the city park particularly par-ticularly is a disgrace to the community. Again the Main Street improvement is a fine undertaking un-dertaking but the debris that is being taken from Main Street to make room for the "new face" is creating cre-ating another unsightly situation along Coal Creek within the city limits. All of the debris has been hauled from Main Street and dumped along the creek bank near the ball parks, adjacent to the Indian Village Vil-lage and near the creek at the entrance to the community com-munity on the east. Supposedly efforts will be made to cover up the unsightly debris at a later date, but until that time there remains a question as to the adviseability of dumping along the creek banks and the unsightly mess it is creating. It is our suggestion that the city do everything it can to correct these situations in order that the efforts ef-forts of other organizations and individuals to beau-tifly beau-tifly the community might not be overshadowed by the lack of response by the city. |
