Show School district switch Summit students to Parowan for 1969-70 In regular meeting May 19, the Iron County Board of Education Ed-ucation voted to have the Summit Sum-mit students attend the Parowan Paro-wan schools at the beginning of the 19G9-70 school year. The decision was passed on a vote of three in favor and one member of the board abstaining. ab-staining. The board stated that the decision had been made after careful consideration considera-tion and the weighing of issues is-sues both for and against, however, "due to the decrease in the resources in the district, the possible influx of students, student time spent on buses and other minor reasons, the decision was made," a prepared pre-pared statement Indicated. "The board expressed their concern for the education of the students and their responsibility re-sponsibility to look at th.e en- tire district and Hie majority felt the decision was in the best interest of both students and overall education goals," the statement concluded. Music program in the district dis-trict was discussed and Sup. erintendent Joe Reidhead indicated in-dicated that they anticipated the program for the next year would be at approximately the same level but would be rearranged re-arranged somewhat depending on personnel. It was noted that Robert Potter, instructor at Parowan Schools will not be in the district next year and possible other changes are also contemplated. Proposed plans for the summer sum-mer school program were presented pre-sented to the board by Max Dalley and approved. A complete com-plete rundown on the offerings will be published at a later date in the Iron County Record. The board authorized a letter let-ter of commendation to Thales Brown of Parowan High School for progress in establishing the new agriculture experimental experi-mental plot in Parowan. Approval was also given by the board for acquisition of money on tax anticipated notes to begin the new fiscal year on July 1. The practice has been used in the past to provide necessary funds for operation until tax revenue is actually available later in the fiscal year. Final plans for remodeling of the second story of the Cedar Ce-dar Junior High School West building were approved by the board. Bids for the remodeling remodel-ing will bo opened this evening even-ing at 8 p.m. in the school board office. As directed by the board Superintendent 'Reidhead presented pre-sented proposed guidelines and regulations governing the charging of admission for major ma-jor productions. The presentation presenta-tion was adopted and will be used to govern productions during the coming years. Superintendent further presented pre-sented outlined programs on the five year plan of capital outlay for the next year, and it was accepted. Sprinkling system sys-tem at the Cedar High School and remodeling at the Junior High West were two of the major items set for the next fiscal year. Two Cedar City High School teachers were authorized to in- vestigate and observe the BSCS biology program in Clark County, Nev. and a field trip to Salt Lake City on June 2 for the special education class at the Cedar Junior High was authorized by the board. Approval for the submission of an aplication to participate With the State Department in an eexemplary program for occupational oc-cupational preparation in selected se-lected agricultural and industrial in-dustrial activities for small high schools in Utah was given giv-en by the board. If approved the participating would bo through the Parowan High School. Six district employees who will retire at the end of the current school year were also honored in a special ceremony held in connection with the board meeting. The six were invited to join the board and were presented with a small brass school bell as a token of their service. The bell included includ-ed the name and number of years service in the district of each of the employees. Included were Howard N. Dalley, district clerk; Dr. Eugene Eu-gene T. Woolf, retiring member mem-ber of the board of education; Claude W. Adams, Parowan High School; Virgie M. Frame, teacher at the Cedar Junior High; Edith H. Kirtley, South Elementary; Alenna Williams, East Elementary and Marian H. Luke, North Elementary. |
