Show Council annexes property on South Main Let bids for new water line to supply park area Annexation of property adjacent ad-jacent to U. S. Highway 91 from Cedar City limits south to Interstate Highway 15 was approved at the meeting of the Cedar City Council Thursday evening. An ordinance aproving the annexation was approved by the council. Basically it included in-cluded all property on either side of U. S. Highway 91 from me soum cuy iimus sourn to the Interstate for a depth of 200 feet, .except where property proper-ty owners have requested additional ad-ditional depth. The annexation was also extended ex-tended to include th.e old race track immediately west of the Interstate Highway which is property owned by the city. A contract was also awarded by tlie council for the installation instal-lation of a pine line from the newly drilled well near the cemetery to the Golf Course. Successful bidder was Reynold Dennett Plumbing with a bid of $4718.50. Engineers estimate on the project was $5587.45 and the high bid of the four submitted sub-mitted on the project ranged to $9943. The council further authorized author-ized a call for bids for pipe for improvement of the culinary water system on 200, 300 and 400 East street between 299 South and 400 South plus the materials for a feeder line from the Highland Drive sub-i sub-i division area to the main line near the Indian Village. . The improvement calls for replace-ment replace-ment and enlargement of the water line on the three streets where present pipe is inadequate inade-quate and worn out, Mayor ' Loren Whetten pointed out. The installation of a feeder line from Highland Drive will complete a circulation system and eliminate a present dead end in th.e city's system, he said. Cedar City Council approved two new subdivisions anH ao- proved an extension of a third. Approved were the S. T. Nel-son Nel-son Subdivision and the Gordon Gor-don Smith subdivision. The extension ex-tension of the F. A. Thorley subdivision was also approved. All three units are located west of Interstate Highway 15 and south of the Lund Highway High-way (Utah Highway 56). Biui Chamberlain representing represent-ing the Lions Club of Cedar City met with the council to establish final plans for a new entrance to the municipal Air. port. The Lions Club has a-greed a-greed to erect a new and attractive at-tractive entrance at the Airport. Air-port. Under the plans the entrance en-trance will be located at the intersection of the County Highway and the current Airport Air-port highway, which is several hundred yards south of the present location. From that point a new road to the administration ad-ministration building will be built the Mayor indicated. The resgnation of Tom Coon from the Cedar City Police Department De-partment was acepted by the Council. Coon has accepted other employment. Mayor Whetten also indicated that applications to fill the vacancy va-cancy are now being accepted and can be submitted at the city offices. A request from Cedar City High School to eliminate parking park-ing on the south side of 600 South street was refered by the council to the Safety Committee. Commit-tee. The parking exclusion request re-quest was between 5S0 to 800 West. Previously the north side of the street was restricted to parking at the request of residents res-idents in the area. No action was taken on the request pending recommendations recommenda-tions of the committee, Mayor Whetten indicated. |
