AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT SUPPOSEDLY THE CAUSE Once Owned Part of Tribune, and Was Widely Known in I he West. Grorgy W. "Rood, pioneer, former newspaper man and widely known citizen citi-zen of Snlt Lake, died at his' home. 77 J street, in this city, at :i:0o o'clock Wednesday-afternoon, at the ogo of 76 year?, Mr. Kccd's death is supposed to he the result of injuries received in a collision with an automobile at Seventh Sev-enth East and South Temple streets on October 16th. As a result of the collision. Mr. Kecd . suffered concussion of tho brain ami was unconscious a greater portion of the time, until his suffering was relieved bv death. For two weeks precoding his; death, he had been unconscious con-tinuallv. con-tinuallv. Immediately after the accident, acci-dent, Mr. lieed was removed to the Holy Cross hospital, where ho remained for a week, after which ho was taken to his home. " Mr. Reed was born in London, hng-land, hng-land, 7(3 years ago last April and. as a boy, learned the printing trade, lie cainc to Utah in iSiit! and was first employed em-ployed on tho Desoret News. Later, he and othor prominent men organized ihc Utah Magazine, then the. Salt Lake1 Mormon Tribune and still later the Salt Lake Tribune. On tho old Salt Lake Tribune, Mr. Ifeed was in the advertising advertis-ing department, where ho remained until un-til the. purchase of the paper by P. IT. Lamwin and O. C. Goodwin at which time he retired. Mir. Rood was known all over Utah and the intcrmountaiu country, and was highly respected. His wite died about twenty years ago, but the follow-hiT follow-hiT children 'survive him; George W. Kecd. dr., William T. Heed, Edith Reed and Mrs. Phillip S. Meyers, the latter of Knight, Wyoming.
