Show LUMLEY FIRE ALARM IS RIGHT ON THE JOB In just one minute and three-quarters from the time the blaze was started start-ed in a pile of rubbiuh at the Pure Food exhibition in tho Auditorium, Wednesday evening, the fire department depart-ment arrived, at tho building, and in half a minute moro had extinguished the blaze. Nothing could have been more successful than the demonstration given by the Luinlcy KIcctro-Thcrinos-talic Fire Altirni apparatus. That the apparatus is all right was evident, and a largo audience witnessed the trial with considerable interest. Mr. Luinlcy firsi explained the workings work-ings of his apparatus and then lighted a lire in a pile of rubbish. A few of tho people present were disposed to nervousness when the Haines appeared, but this was quickly allayed with ihe appearance of the doughty firefighter with liro extinguisher and a lantern so short 1' sfler the fire was started. The apparatus is simple and is arranged ar-ranged not only to furnish protection in case of fire, but also lo regulate- the amount, of hear in moms and private residences. Fire Chief William JI. Oloro is president, uf the company, Charles R. Luniley, secretary and treasurer; treas-urer; .loMeph Lippinaii, general counsel, and D. C. Darl. .1. 13. Marshall and G. T. Bean, additional directors. It. will thus be seen lhaf the company is a local one. The apparatus was invented here, in fact, and is being exploited by local lo-cal capital. That it does the business is shown by the rapidity of the re sponse to the alarm Wednesday night, when there was only a small blaze to establish commuuicat ions. It is hoped to place the apparatus in every private residence in the city and in the rooms of the different hotels. Sonic of the advantages of the apparatus appara-tus are explained as follows: In the first placo, its use will mean tho saving sav-ing of thousands of dollars' worth of property and possibly the loss of lives, on account of life rapid notification of the fire department of incipient, tires; the protection against liro is positive and absolute; it controls and regulates steam heat and makes it possible to keep the temperature of rooms at any desired degree. This is a distinct advantage ad-vantage in hot houses, hospitals, incubators. incuba-tors. Pullman cars, offices, living rooms, and in fact any place where heat is used. The installation cost is small and tho apparatus can bo adjusted to any required degree of temperature. It is pointed oui py I lie exploiters or i lie apparatus that sleeping, m a "sk3'scrap-er "sk3'scrap-er equipped with Ihe steam will bo perfectly safe, because Ihe fire department, depart-ment, will be notified of the blaze and directed to iho place instantly. The great, advantage, also, of the apparatus is the reliability of its action. Tho company is only recently organized organ-ized and a successful future alread3' appears ap-pears assured. It is pointed out that to install the apparatus in somo of the larger cities will require as ninny as 1.0(111,000 instruments. The installation of these at a profit, of nnl,v cents each would mean net proceeds amounting amount-ing lo $250,000. When it is remembered remem-bered that the installation in practically practic-ally all the cities of the county is only a question of time, it can be seen that the owners are almost certain to achieve an excellent financiarrctnrn as tho results of their invention. |
