Show ATTEMPT TG BOOT THE FACTS CHAR6EB Register Balderston of Boise Land Office Accused of Unfair Un-fair Practice. Special to The Tribune BOISE, Idaho, Dec. 1 The alleged attempt of Register William Balderston Balder-ston of the Boise land offico to attempt to suppress in time for publication in the afternoon papers the facts pertaining pertain-ing to the injunction to restrain the state board of land commissioners from taking action on the report of the log-isaltive log-isaltive homestead commission which investigated in-vestigated the Marble Creek claims, created a sensation in this city this afternoon. Bclderston was formerly editor of tho Statesman, tho morning paper, and received re-ceived his appointment to tho office of register to the land office through the influence of Senator W. E. Borah. The register is made the plaintiff in tho injunction proceedings and the members of tho land board defendants. It specifics two classes of lands, ono being known as the Thorpe lands of which the stato "is owner and entitled to tho immediate possession." The manner of acquiring title is given and a decision of the government land departmont de-partmont given cancelling the adverse claims and granting the claim of the stato is cited. The other class is in identically the same position except that the decision of-tho commissioner of tho general land office had not been handed down, "although "al-though the same has been made by the secretary of ihc interior, but that the stato board of land commissioners of tho stato of Tdaho have hitherto requested re-quested tho secretary o the interior to withhold his said decisions affirming affirm-ing the decisions of the commissioner of the genernl land office." And alleges that, "The secretary of tho interior is withholding his said decision solely because of an understanding under-standing had by him with tki said state land board of tho stato of Idaho." |
