Carter, a. widely-known civil and mining engineer and also prominently Identified with the iLoyal Onlor of Moose, arrived, in the city fromhis home at Oakland. Cnl., yesterday and registered at the Hotel Utah. Mr. Carter is here for tho purpoBo of beginning a campaign cam-paign which has for its purpose a large and prominent addition to the membership member-ship of tho Moose lodge In this city. Discussing Dis-cussing the matter yesterday, Mr. Carter said: All over the country where Moose lodges exist they liavo the support of the best Interests in the communities, communi-ties, and this particularly applies to the large membership of prominent business men. The lodgo in this city has done remarkably well, but It Is the desire to lnduco a larger percentage percent-age of leading business men to join, and It is for that purpose that I am here. I do not anticipate any difficulty diffi-culty in largely Increasing tho membership mem-bership and shall Inaugurate a vlg-, vlg-, orous campaign just as soon as 1 can confer with the officers of the lodge and map out my plans. Mr. Carter has had considerable experience ex-perience in the matter of instituting and maintaining lodges and clubs and enjoys the distinction of bolng ono of the nine charter members of tho famous Montezuma Monte-zuma club at Goldflold, Nov., one of tho notable organizations of the kind in the country. The Montezuma club began its existence In cramped quarters, but soon enlarged them and now occupies commodious rooms in ono of the handsomest hand-somest buildings in Goldfleld. It was no uncommon sight In the old boom dnvs In Goldfleld to see $20,000,000 represented In a gamo of pool or billiards at the Montezuma, Mon-tezuma, club. Discussing present conditions in Nevada, Neva-da, yesterday, Mr. Carter expressed the opinion that the new camp of Rochester will develop into it second Tonopah. wlilch for years has been tho best camp in tho Sagebrush state. Mr. Carter says tliat the oro in Rochester is rich and that it appears to hold out at depth. |
