Carter, who registers from Boise, Ida., but who is Interested in a big reclamation and irrigation project pro-ject in the Indian Cove country near Hammctl stntlon, nine miles west of Glcnns Ferry, Ida., was a visitor to the city yesterday, leaving in the afternoon for tho north. Captain Carter owns a ranch near Hammott station, which Is said to be tho most notablo in the west as regards facilities. fa-cilities. Through tho agency of electricity, electric-ity, applied to pumping plants, Captain Carter takes water from the Snake river for Irrigation purposes, and the same current furnishes light and heat for his buildings. Adjoining his own ranch, he has an area of about 12,000 acres upon which he proposes to place f armors, and all the irrigating, lighting and heating will be done by electricity. Tt is his Intention In-tention at an early date to erect a large number of houses upon the tract, and those who purchase lands will have every convenience that electricity can furnish. Captain Carter, in addition to his other activities. Is a beet sugar expert, and he expects to do much In the way of aiding tho progress of the Gem state within the next few years. |
