Refusing to heed tho friondly advico of Judge Con-ley, Con-ley, who came down from the bench at the noon recess In tho Darrow trial and earnestly pleaded with him to retire from the caso for his own good, Earl Rogers, Darrow's chief counsel, was taken forcibly in hand by his physicians this afternoon and put to bed suffering I from nervous collapse. Tonight Darrow Dar-row declared that while he greatly regretted re-gretted tho loss of Rogers, ho would not again permit him to take an active part In the case, and would act as his own chief counsel horeaftcr. The cross-examination of George N. Lockwood, one of the state's most important im-portant witnesses, which was begun bv Rogers this morning, was finished by Darrow thl3 afternoon. |
