Show Reading Club Holds Many Book Review Meets Mrs. Lona Watson recently entertained en-tertained the Summer Reading Club at her home with Mrs. Dew-ie Dew-ie Thorley as assistant hostess. Sixteen members of the club were present to participate In a discussion of the discipline of present day children, and to hear the wonderful report by Miss Bee Roberts of the life of Michael An-gelo An-gelo from the book of Giovanni Papini. Paplnl was a lifelong friend of the great sculptor, artist and poet, for Angelo was all of these. He was a great lover of beauty of the human form. He Is noted mostly for his great statue of Moses, one ol David, and one of Mary, the mother of Jesus as she holds her son in her arms after his body has been taken from the cross. Angelo lived a solitary life. He overcame Invalidism and was 89 years old at the time of his death. Miss Roberta passed to the ladies pictures of his great masterpieces. mas-terpieces. Another meeting of the Summer Sum-mer Reading Club was held at the home of Mrs. Prudence Croft with one special guest present, Mrs. Roe Palmer, who gave a review re-view of the book, "Sincerely Wallace Wal-lace Wade," by Marquand. Can-teloupe Can-teloupe and Ice cream was served at the close of the afternoon. On Friday afternoon Mrs. Rose Anderson entertained the club at her home with Mrs. Florence Hlg-bee Hlg-bee as assistant hostess. Flor ence Cardon . reviewed . the book "Nectar In a Sieve," by Kamala Marlandyke. This Is a pathetic picture of life In India of one family. Sixteen members were present, and the following guests: Mrs. Zoe Palmer, Mrs. Jean Chris-tensen, Chris-tensen, Mrs. Ella Edmunds, Mrs. Vera Hlrschl, and Mrs. Nellie Hopkins. Mrs. Anderson served a delicious plate luncheon at the close of this pleasant afternoon. |
