Show YOUTH PLAYS SET FOR MONDAY NIGHTS With dress rehearsals scheduled sched-uled for Friday and Saturday, finishing touches are being applied ap-plied to the one-act plays being presented Monday evening at the College of Southern Utah. Curtain time has been set for 8:30 for the three comedies being be-ing presented by the Young I'co- pies' Theatre under the director of Richard M. Rowley, assistant professor of speech and English. The American Association of University Uni-versity Women, Cedar City chap- ter, is sponsoring the Young Feo-pies' Feo-pies' Theatre in cooperation with the C S U drama department. Tickets are on sale for the plays, with proceeds to go into the Fellowship Fund of the AAUW to finance scholarships for worthy and needy students. Members of the AAUW are distributing dis-tributing tickets under the direction di-rection of Mrs. L. V. Broadbent. chapter president, and Mrs. V. C. Frame, chairman of the Young Teoples' Theatre committee. The plays are "The City Slicker Slick-er and Our Nell," an old-fashioned "meller-drammer"; "Beyond "Be-yond the Typha," a musical fantasy, fan-tasy, and "Goldilocks and the Eight Bears," a farce comedy. A total of 34 young people are participating par-ticipating in the casts of the plays, with students of Professor Rowley's stake directing class acting as student directors. Scenery for each of the plays is being constructed by cast members. Costumes, lighting, dancing and music are also being be-ing provided by cast members, the student directors and members mem-bers of the A A U W. This is the first time a program pro-gram of this kind has been attempted at-tempted at the college. If audience audi-ence response Is favorable, further fur-ther development of summer theatre the-atre may be undertaken In connection con-nection with the C S U summer session. |
