Show ! Residents Enjoy City's I Special Holiday Activities ! A very successful observance of i Independence Day were held in ; Parowan with a complete day's, i program arranged and carried out under the direction of a committee com-mittee consisting of Clair Hulet, Garry Bentley and Howard Adams, aided by several other organizations of the community. A very successful parade was held consisting of two divisions, one for large floats and one for floats of the miniature kind and prizes were awarded to winners In each division. These winners were as follows: Large floats, first, "Utah's Finest Fin-est Crop," entered by Third Ward Primary; second, "Camp Fire Scene" entrv of the Parowan Gun and Rod Club, and third, "Precious "Pre-cious Jewels," entered by Burton's Bur-ton's Garage. Miniature division: first, entry of the Second Ward Primary: second, sec-ond, the entrv of the First Ward Primary Co-Pilot woud, and third "The Dogele in the Window" entered en-tered bv Mr. and Mrs. Bill Rollins Rol-lins and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Barton. Bar-ton. Following the Drade a patriotic meeting was held In the Third "Ward chapel, with Countv Attorney Attor-ney A. M. Marsden as principal speaker, with a talk bv "Uncle Sam," Nelson Taylor: a song by "Goddess of Liberty." Helen Ste-vens; Ste-vens; a reading bv "Miss Utah." "Emily Mav Wilcock: a vocal solo bv Howard Knight and an organ solo of patriotic airs by George H. Durham. In the afternoon one of the largest crowds ever to gather In Parowan was on hand at the city Tace track to witness the horse show, rodeo and race meet pre sented by the Red Hill Wranglers, which was as usual a very entertaining enter-taining affair. The Wranglers were Joined by members of the PaBgultch Horsemen's Club during dur-ing the afternoon and the two groups of horsemen staged two contests In equestrian skill and we understand broke even In the events. This event was followed by sports for the children and the day ended with a dance at the high school gymnasium In the evening. |
