Show Lady Vikings are tough opponents By TOM HARALDSEN I ROY Viewmont's Lady Vik- I ings are starting to And themselves, to put things together. When that I happens, it usually spells trouble I for their opponents. The Vikings held the lead most of the way Friday evening, as they dumped host Roy 55-44 in a preliminary pre-liminary to the varsity boy's game. I The win moved Viewmont to 2-5 on the year, but also seemed to signal that this team is starting to play together much better. After a heartbreaking 66-63 loss to Weber on Wednesday, the Vikes came alive against the Royals. Seniors Launee Larsen and Julie Stuart combined for 31 points, most coming on fast breaks or great outside shooting. But the continued con-tinued inside play of junior Becky Yeates was equally important. Against Weber, Yeates scored 26 points and had 1 5 rebounds. She followed that effort up with 10 points against Roy. AIjo having good games for Viewmont were the Smith sisters-Stacie sisters-Stacie and Sharwan, who combined com-bined for eight points, and Karen Tinslcy, starting to play after an early-season injury, who had four points. Three of Viewmont's five losses have been by three points or less, but the improved play and return of injured players, including sophomore sopho-more Tiffany Twitchell, should make Viewmont a contender down the league stretch. 1 ' The Vikings will return to action on Dec. 30, when they travel to American Fork. They will finish preseason with games Jan. 2, hosting host-ing Cyprus, and at West on Jan. 6. Region action begins Jan. 13 at East. BOUNTIFUL The Lady Braves moved to 5-3 on the year as they drubbed Bonneville Bonne-ville 53-46. Bountiful moved to a 44-27 lead after three periods and never looked back, though the Lakers tried to make a move early in the fourth quarter. Bountiful continued to get strong play from senior Michelle Behl, who had 1 6 points. Behl has been in double figures in seven of the eight games played this year. Senior Heidi Olsen led the scoring with 19 points, while Kristen Rose added 8, Kim Johnson and Jana Murdock 4 each, and Jenny Dredge had 2. Bountiful was to travel to Judge for a game yesterday afternoon, then will rest until a January 6 contest con-test at home against Clearfield. Bountiful begins region action Jan. 13, hosting Davis at 5:30 p.m. WOODS CROSS The Lady Wildcats are 5-1 after beating Skyline last week in Salt Lake City. Woods Cross will play four more preseason games before region begins, starting Dec. 30 at home against Tooele. The Cats then travel to Bonneville on Jan. 2, to Ptovo on Jan. 3, and to Roy on Jan. 9. They open league action Jan. 13 at home against Highland. |
