Show Btflo Brave Rave By GEOFFREY HASLAM Happy New Year! As the '86 year comes to an end many memories memor-ies of a super year flood the "ID" within me and perhaps a tear or two is shed as 1 remember'- especially espe-cially the class of '86 and its more than unique studentbody. As I remind all BHS Musical production members of their "longest day" (this Saturday when all cast members work on the musical from 8 a.m. to "Grendel's hour" at the school) I'm reminded of a "colorful" musical cast member mem-ber from last year, Keith Eubank. I'll never forget the way Keith would pick me up, throw me over his shoulder and rush down the BHS hallways singing that immortal immor-tal song "sharpen up" (along with other such sermons). Keith is leaving leav-ing on a mission this month and though I'll miss his words of enlightenment, en-lightenment, I'm sure the rest of the world that he sees in the next two years will benefit from many exceptional lessons of life (along with a few accurate weather re ports). As I announce the Golden Spike Debate tournament on Saturday at Weber High, I'm reminded of Can-dice Can-dice Terry one of my favorite people. peo-ple. How her and Scott Adams kissed kis-sed and held each other in "Don't Drink the Water," I'll never know; I think that my friend Dave Smith probably helped Candice out in that regard. Speaking of Dave, I would like to thank Dave for his help with lighting the "B" at homecoming home-coming and for warding off the pigeons pi-geons while we put the Christmas lights on the school. Similarly, in announcing the girls basketball game vs. Clearfield here at 5:30 next Tuesday. I'm reminded re-minded of Jill Westergard. I always felt like Charlie Brown watching the "little red-head girl" whenever I saw her. The only difference was that she was taller than me and a much better basketball player as well (although I did hit a 19-foot jumper in my church ballgame last Thursday-under pressure). As I announce the wrestling meet at Davis next Thursday at 7:30, I'm reminded of Chris Beck. Although I never got to know him really well, I'll never forget Chris defiant "grunts" after he won his matches in the heavy-weight division. divi-sion. In announcing the guys' basketball basket-ball game vs. East (at home) at 7:30 next Friday - I'm reminded of Steve Mihas and the other squad members who sported such fine haircuts during the playoff months. With Dusty Jacobs' flowing white hair and Steve's semi-mohawk, our short-haired team couldn't help but intimidate their opponents into big wins for BHS. As I turn the already battered pages of my 1986 yearbook, so many happy memories and familiar faces come to mind that I have to smile. To my class, the class of 1987, 1 offer a challenge: let's make a goal to make "our year" as memorable and as happy as those who have passed before us. To the class of 1986 I give thanks for the happy memories and good times that flood my head as I turn the final pages of your yearbook. -HAZ |
