Show BU1P chzp to held social The Helen Mar Miller Daughters of Utah Pioneers held their Christmas Christ-mas party Dec. 15, at the Farming-ton Farming-ton City Complex. Co-hostesses were Irene Olsen, Wilma Miller, Ruth Brown and Theda Judd. June Swaner conducted the meeting. Prayer was given by Helen LaCombe. Ruth Brown led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance Alle-giance to the flag. Gifts were exchanged. ex-changed. Virginia Semadeni and Theda Judd led in singing the DUP theme song "Daughters of the Utah Pioneers" and Christmas carols. Irene Olsen showed a sterling silver sil-ver butter dish that is 1 35 years old, made in England by the Royal Manufacturing Co. It was brought from England by Bernard Johnson's John-son's grandfather's wife. June Swaner told about Dr. Martha Jughes Cannon, born in Wales in July 1 857. She crossed the plains in 1860, and was elected to the Upper House Legislature in 18. She was the first woman in the United States to hold the title of State Senator. A Salt Lake building at 288 N. Garside was dedicated on June 12, 1986 to the foundation of the Utah Department of Health in honor of Dr. Cannon. Those present were Alice Johnson, John-son, Hilda Neibaur, Maude Mayfield, Theda Judd, Wilma Miller, Mil-ler, Marvel Mayfield, June Swaner, Swan-er, Ethel Perry, Violet Lake, Irene Olsen, Helen LaCombe and Enid Seiger.
