The main focus of the series is helping help-ing children develop and practice a sense of responsibility. The instructor for the course will be Lorene Newbold, who holds a Masters of Clinical and School Psychology from Utah State University. Uni-versity. She has worked in the Weber We-ber School District and is currently enjoying being a homemaker, wife and mother of three young children. chil-dren. THE COURSE will begin Wednesday, Feb. 26 and continue each Wednesday evening through April 2, with a starting time of 7 p.m. It will be held at the Monte Vista Center, 100 South 200 East, Farmington. Class size will be limited and pre-registration pre-registration is required with a fee of $25 per couple or $15 per person. This charge includes a course manual, a useful resource for parents pa-rents as they strive to incorporate the new parenting skills into their lives. 'RESPONSIVE Parenting" is one of many classes, workshops and seminars offered to parents of the Davis School District, through i the Parent Education Resource Center (PERC) program. In addition, addi-tion, the center serves much like a lending library and contains a wealth of information concerning child-development, discipline, communication and other subjects pertinent to parenting. Materials include books, filmstrips and educational edu-cational toys. Audio-visual equipment equip-ment is available and no fees are charged for the use of materials. Other PERC services include counseling concerning choice of materials best suited for individual needs and assistance for parents of children who have special needs. Guidance is offered in selecting children's literature and filmstrips to help children deal with situations situa-tions such as death, illness, di-, di-, vorce, formulating values, etc. THE PERC Center is opened Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., except on Wednesdays Wednes-days from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. The center honors the school calendar. ; Home is the training ground for ; life as it is in this setting the child 1 receives a basis for his value sys- 2 tern and learns living and relation- ship skills which will equip him to meet the demands, pressures and the challenges of the outside world. THE responsibility of parenting can weigh heavily upon the shoulders shoul-ders of parents as they strive to create a climate in which the child can learn a sense of responsibility and a feeling of self worth. Often times parents feel alone as they grapple with the everyday frustrations frustra-tions of parenthood. There is, however, much information available avail-able which can make their tasks easier. This information, which is based upon basic principles, can be incorporated into a family system by study and support from others. The Davis School District's Parent Pa-rent Education Resource Center is sponsoring a six week course, :"Responsive Parenting" which will help parents in this process. ; THE SIX week discussion group will explore a positive approach to parenting.
