Show 150 Barrels Per Day New Vernal Oil Well Is State's 1st Commercial Producing Well For the first time since the search began more than 50 years ago, Utah can boast of a "producing commercial oil well." What this will mean to the future of Utah is anybody's guess. It is certain that the immediate future fu-ture will see extreme activity and -revived interest in those sections of the state that have held the interest of oil men and geologists over a period of many, many years. It is certain that the oil boom is on in Utan. Utah can now add "oil" to us long list of natural resources. ;50 barrels Per. Day On Saturday, Sept. IS, the oil strike was made by tne Equity Oil Company, on its Asnley valley val-ley No. 1 well located 10 miles southeast of Vernal- The now began at 1:45 p.m. The well began be-gan with a ilow estimated at oM barrels per day but the well has now settled down to a flow of 160 barrels per day. This is a good commercial quantity and ine oil engineers anticipate a continued now at tne present 150-oarrjl rate. The new wen was brought in from a diiling of 4152 icet oiny 11 leet into tne Weber sanus (which is the producing torma-tion torma-tion at Rangley, Col., and only 3u miles away from the new Utah well). At one time engineers engi-neers taiKed of going deeper into the Weber sanns but tne present indication is that they are content with the well as it is, and tney will cease experimental experi-mental operations on the well. An oil well that will produce 20 or more barrels per clay can be operated on a paying Dasis. The average flow o: the producing produc-ing wells in the Rangley tield (.now the largest oil producing section in the west) is between 75 and 80 barrels per day. bo the new Utah well has very favorable fa-vorable indications. There have been several large companies prospecting in Utah. This new well will Dring in many more. Eastern Utah will be the first benefactor but all Utah will share in this new found source of weal Lb. |
