Show S.H. Man, Former Baseball Star, Is Braves' Guest Paul Strand, manager and owner of the K&K Plumbing Plumb-ing and Heating Co. in Sugar Su-gar House, and former baseball base-ball great, is in Boston this week attending the world series as' a guest of the Boston Bos-ton Braves, who remember "Prancin' Paul" as a star southpaw pitcher and pinch hitter in 1920-21-22. He once pitched a no-hit, no-run game against the Cincinnati Reds. Paul also starred in the Pacific Northwest League where he chalked up a no-hitter no-hitter for Tacoma against Vancouver. With the Salt Lake Bees in 1923 and 1924, Paul twice led the circuit in hitting, runs batted in and total bases. His 1924 record rec-ord of 558 putouts in the outfield is still unequalled in the Coast league. In 1925, Connie Mack, after scouting Strand in person, bought him for the Philadelphia Athletics.' At the close of that season, Strand quit .baseball to go into business. |
