Show Try For Curbing Accidents To Be Undertaken Efforts to curb the continuing trend of serious traffic accidents and widespread traffic violations will be undertaken in Salt Lake City on September 9th and 10th at the first nationally-directed Traffic Court Conference to be held in Utah. The American Bar Association and the Northwestern University Traffic Institute are joining several Utah agencies and organizations . in sponsoring the conclave. Justice J. Allan Crockett, of the Utah Supreme Court is general gener-al chairman of the meet which will be led off with an opening address by Governor J. Bracken Lee. Delegates to the meeting will be judges, justices of the peace, prosecutors and enforcement officers offi-cers from all over the state. The general public is also being invited invit-ed to attend and participate in the discussions. James P. Economos, director of the Traffic Court Program, American Amer-ican Bar Association, and Judge Edward C. Fisher, associate counsel coun-sel for Northwestern University Traffic Institute, will be among the principal speakers and leaders of the meet. "The traffic court is the very foundation of the entire traffic law enforcement structure," said Mr. Economos, "and if these courts fail to uphold their responsibility our whole society suffers. Unfortunately, Unfortun-ately, there is evidence on every hand that many courts are indeed failing to uphold their end of the load, and it is for this reason, among others, that contempt and disregard for the law is being widely demonstrated. The violations, viola-tions, therefore, that follow are the principal reason so many accidents ac-cidents are occuring, with the re-sulant re-sulant gigantic loss in lives, property, pro-perty, and economic resources everywhere. We expect that this conference will enable many court officials to re-appraise their duties to the end that this 'weak link' will be replaced with a stronger one and errant drivers effectively discouraged from repeating their offenses." The conference meetings will be held in the Union Building, University Uni-versity of Utah campus. |
