Show I Shi Irdlmi Children Are Placed In LDS E Somes Church Has Plan To Aid In Education Move Six Indian children from' Arizona Ari-zona and New Mexico have been placed in the homes of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the Roosevelt Roose-velt stake, where they will reside and attend school this winter. Five have arrived and another child has. been granted the Eric Stolla family, but has not yet arrived. ar-rived. Several' weeks ago it was announced an-nounced that several LDS Indian children needed homes and twenty-seven families in this area made applications. Only six were sent here. Receive Children Those receiving .the children were: Mr. and Mrs. Reed Lemon of Ioka, who have a fourteen-year old boy, Virgil Namokf, a Hopf Indian from the Polacca Reservation Reserva-tion in Arizona he is in the 7th grade; Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Hullin-ger Hullin-ger of Ballard, who have an eight-year-old boy named Josea Robert Carpia, from Isleta, New Mexico he is in the 2nd grade; Bishop and Mrs. Ashael' Perry of the Mof-fatt Mof-fatt ward, Fort Duchesne, whose boy is LeP.oy Henry Whitehair, a Navajo from Gallup, New Mexico, Mex-ico, 2nd grade; Mr. and Mrs. Parley Par-ley Rawlings, Roosevelt, who have a twelve-year-old boy, Orin (Mickey) (Mick-ey) Delano Nashio, an Apache, from White River, Arizona, 6th grade; and Mr. and Mrs. (Ben Gomm, Roosevelt,, an eight-year-old boy, Robert Erwin Nakai from Fort Wingate, New Mexico, 2nd grade Church Program The placement of these children J in LDS homes has come about through a church-wide program to I (Continued on Back Page) SIX INDIAN CHILDREN . . . (Continued from Page 1) help the less fortunate children have a winter home and receive a year's, schooling. The children will return to their homes during the summer and in many cases may return the following winter to the .same homes to continue their education. They came from the Northwest Indian Mission. Persons applying for the children child-ren were interviewed recently by Rex Ashdown, representative of the LDS church who explained the program thoroughly to the group. |
