Show Nome Economics Convention Is Set For April 15 "D e v e 1 o p in g World Peace Through the Home," is the theme chosen for the 1955 Utah State Home Economics Association Convention. Con-vention. Miss Genevieve Allen, president of the association will be in charge. Mrs. Beatrice Tan-ielian Tan-ielian is convention chairman. The program as outlined by Mrs. Tan-ielian Tan-ielian and her committies will begin be-gin Friday, April 15th, with registration reg-istration and voting at 3:30. An informal in-formal reception will be held at 5:00 o'clock. The evening meeting will be the "kick-off" pf the convention with Dr. O. Preston Robinson as the principal speaker. His talk will be on "World Economic and Political News." After the, talk, a fashion show will be held with Miss Olive Barry of Simplicity Pattern Co. conducting the revue. Good musical mus-ical numbers will be some of the main features of the evening program. pro-gram. Saturday morning will start with a breakfast at 7:45 on the Roof Garden at Hotel Utah. Spring table decorations and good food will be the main attraction. Fashions Fash-ions will parade and old friend- ships will be renewed. Surprise entertainment en-tertainment and gifts are in store for everyone. At 2:00 p.m. sectional meetings will be held. Art, textiles and clothing with Miss Florence Gil-more Gil-more giving "Exclamation Points of Fashion." All clothing people will be interested in this department, depart-ment, which is under the supervision super-vision of .Miss Theta Johnson, USAC. The foods and nutrition section is under the supervision of Miss Lena Mcintosh, BYU. In this section, they will take up "Weight Control Through Diet." A symposium will be the main part of the program. The family relations and child development section will be under the supervision super-vision of Mrs. Mary Bacon and Dr. (Bruce Gardner, USAC, young talented child development specialist, special-ist, who will discuss "Child Guidance; Guid-ance; the Old and the New." Housing Hous-ing and household equipment is under the supervision of Mrs. Ruby Eldredge. "You and Your Kitchen," will be the theme. After the sectional meetings, everyone will meet together and a resume of each section will be given. There will be gift drawings at the meetings. Home Economists in home making mak-ing are represented by Mrs. Lynn Teel, and they will participate in all the activities. At 6:00 p.m. the final dinner meeting will be held with George M. Mardikian as the principal speaker. He is known all over the world for his restaurant, Omar Khyyam's in San Francisco. He is the author of a cook book entitled "Dinner at Omar Khyyam's" and the "Song of America," soon to appear in Readers Digest. The new officers will be introduced intro-duced to the group and gifts and take-home prizes will be awarded. Commercial companies will have exhibits on the mezzanine floor and show their latest equipment. This is under the direction of Mrs. Ruby Garrett. All home economics graduates from the State of Utah are welcome wel-come to become members of the Home Economics Association and attend the convention. |
