Show WIN IN SECOND ROUND Vernal Gets Mod On Co-op PJIove 989 - 714 The second special meeting called within the last forty-five days by the directors of the Moon Lake Electric to consider moving the Cooperative's office from Altamont, resulted in a decisive vote to centralize in Vernal. Results of the voting at the meeting held yesterday, Wendes-day, Wendes-day, July 11, at the Uintah High Sohool in Vernal found 989 vrtes cast for Vernal, 546 to leave the headquarters at Altamont, and 168 voted for Roosevelt. A vigorous vi-gorous campaign carried on by four directors, the manager and supplemented by the Vernal Chamber of Commerce and REA officials paid dividends, as they reversed a similar vote called at Altamont on May 26, when 1241 members gave a 76 vote majority to reject Vernal as the proposed new site for centralizing the headquarters. At the May meeting the board in issuing the call inclduded only Vernal as a proposed site for the consideration of the membership. member-ship. When this vote failed to accept the Vernal recommendation, recommenda-tion, a majority of the board felt they were justified in adding Roosevelt to the call and still leave Vernal as a choice. And that is the way the members voted yesterday. Approve Ammendments Two other proposals that would amend the existing by-laws of the cooperative were approved almost 2 to 1. One gives the president, or any three board members the power to call special spec-ial meetings of the board. This carried 1040 to 594. The other change makes it necessary to get fitfty-one percent of the signa- tures on a petition in order to call a special meeting of the cooperative- Final vote on this was 1055 to 581. Previously only 10 was required. What1 the next step in the centralization move will be has not been announced, but it is presumed immediate steps will be taken to move the remaining operational op-erational part of the office from Altamont to Vernal. For more than a year the accounting work has been done at the Vernal office. |
