Show Explorers Go To Top Of Mount Emmons EDITOR'S NOTE During the . 1956 High Uintah Scout Camp some 36 explorers and' their leaders participated in the Trail Experience offered by camp officials. This experience included in-cluded the covering of approximately approxi-mately 25 miles during three days, packing food and bedrolls bed-rolls on their backs. Here is an account of one of the three groups making the Trail Experience. Ex-perience. By LaVer W. Bentley Explorers from Altonah, Arcadia Arca-dia and Boneta left the mouth of Swift Creek about 10 a.m. Tuesday, Tues-day, June 26, under the direction of LaVer W. Bentley, Assistant Post Advisor of Mt. Emmmons Post 2254, and Gayfle Gilbert, Post Advisor of Arcadia Post 2259. First of three groups making the trail experience, we reached Swift Creek again by noon where dinner was cooked, hitting the trail about 1:00 pm. During the afternoon the trail crossed Swift Creek twice, then climbed fast to Deer Creek where we stopped long enough to get a drink. Rest stops became more numerous as the afternoon continued, con-tinued, but by 5 p.m. the group had arrived at the main Timothy Lake. Here the fish were feeding, so the boys got their fishing gear into operation and by supper time they had enough fish for both supper and bifeakfast. I even caught one. . Climb Mt. Emmons Wednesday morning, June 27, three of the boy's went on an exploring ex-ploring expedition and climbed Mt. Emmons, the second highest I peak in Utah. The rest of the group went fishing. fish-ing. By evening the second day, most of the group had their limit of fine native and eastern brook trout. After some early fishing Thursday Thurs-day morning we broke camp about 9:30 and headed back to the base camp. We reported in to James E. Bacon, explorer activities chairman, chair-man, just before 3:30 p.m. Accompanying Mr. and Gilbert and myself on the trail experience exper-ience were Allen ' Ames, Ernest Riley, George Reay and' Richard Miller of Altonah; Ronald Calvin, Fred Evans and Larry Beal of Arcadia; and Jimmy Brotherson, Kirt Brotherson and Lloyd Swa-sey Swa-sey of Boneta. |
