Show (Safes Set 1951 Tan Levies Hoosevelt Lowers Tax Levy For This Year At the August 7 meeting four incorporated towns and cities in Duchesne county, Duchesne, Roosevelt, Myton and Tabiona, submitted their 1951 tax levies to the Board of County Com- Imissioners, for their, scrutiny j and approval. I The City of Roosevelt has 'found it possible, the report i shows, to get along on less money mon-ey this year than they did previously. pre-viously. Their levy dropped from 27 to 25 mills. Duchesne, city found their planned activities activ-ities and projects would require more, thus a 1-mill hike from 25 to 26 mills. Myton also increased in-creased their levy 2-mills, 23 to 25 mills. Tabioha's 8 mills remains re-mains the same as last year. Following are complete reports re-ports from the four cities and towns as released by County Clerk Porter L. Merrell: Roosevelt Residents and real property owners in Roosevelt will pay 2 mills less for their city up- keep during 1951 than they did last year. Roosevelt City levies, as submitted to the Duchesne County Commissioners for inspection, in-spection, total 25 mills. Last year's mill levy was '27 mills. Money to be raised for the operation of the city is by. levying levy-ing various mills for the following- purposes: Contingent expense, ex-pense, 5 mills; waterworks for irrigation and other purposes, 4 mills; open, improvement and repairs' of streets and sidewalks, 3 mills; construction and repairs of sewers and drains, 1 miJl; expense of public safety, 3 mills; expense of public property and parks, 2 mills; judgments, interest, in-terest, and sinking fund, 5 mills; mosquito abatement district cost, 1 mill; airport, 1 mill. Last year 2 mills were levied for streets and sidewalks; 8 for judgments; 2 for airport; 5 for general; 4 for waterworks; 1 for sewers and drains; 2 for parks; 3 for public safety. George R. Hacking, Roosevelt city recorder, submitted the levies to the county commissioners commis-sioners for inspection at their August 7 meeting. Duchesne Duchesne city's mill levy for 1951 has been set one mill higher high-er than it has been for several years. The 1951 mill levy is set at 26 mills, or one mill higher than the 1950 levy of 25 mills. This municipal levy is set to raise funds for the following purposes: Contingent expense, 5 mills; waterworks for irrigation irriga-tion and other purposes, 1 mill; open, improvement, repairs for streets and sidewalks, 1.5 mills; street light, electricity and other utilities, 3.5 mills; public safety expense, l'mill; parks and cemetery cem-etery expense, 1 mill; judgments, interest and sinking funds (bond interest, 4 mills and bond sinking- fund, 8 mills), 12 mills; airport, air-port, 1 mill. Mill levies set try the Duchesne Du-chesne City Council for 1951 are the same as for last year, except for the additional 1 mill for the waterworks for irrigation and other purposes, which the city government is authorized to levy by Title 15, Chapter 8-87, Utah Code Annotated, 1943. In addition to these authorized author-ized levies set by the Duchesne City Council, municipal governments govern-ments are allowed by law to levy for construction and repairs of sewers ,: and drains; erection and maintenance of city halls and memorials; expense of city auditor: expense of department of public affairs and finance; establishment and maintenance of libraries, mosquito abatement district cost; metropolitan water district; construction and operation oper-ation of hospitals, and other purposes pur-poses as specified in the Utah statutes. Levies set by the city governments govern-ments within ' each county of the state are presented to the county commissioners not later than the second Monday in August of each year, and they, in turn, submit a copv of such levies to the Utah State Tax Commission for approval. Myton Mill levy set by the Myton City Council for 1951 is for 25 mills. This levy is 2 mills higher than the 23-mill levy which was levied against property owners in Myton last year. Purpose of -the various levies which comprise the 25-mill total levy is as follows: Contingent expense, 5 mills; waterworks for irrigation and other purposes, 1 mill; construction and repair of sewers and drains, 1 mill; Construction and maintenance o gas, electric and other utilities, 2 mills; expense for public safety, safe-ty, 1 mill ;expense of department depart-ment of public affairs and finance, fi-nance, 2 mills; expense of parks and public property, 1 mill; judgments, interest and sinking fund, 12 mills. This mill levy is the same as for 1950 with the exception of an additional 1-mill levy for construction and maintenance main-tenance of gas, electric -and other oth-er utilities, and a 1-mill levy for public safety. Only 1 mill was levied in 1950 for utilities, and no levy was -made for public safety. Myton's levies were submitted by Mayor Wm. H. Linck. Tabiona Tabiona's Town Board has set the 1951 mill levy at 8 mills. This is the same mill levy set for the board last year; and the purpose of the 8-mill levy is to raise funds for water, irrigation or domestic, operation of lights and power plants to serve those residents living within the limits lim-its of Tabiona Town. Copies of the town levies wer.2 presented to the Duchesne County Coun-ty Board of Commissioners by Ernest Stanley, Tabiona town clerk. This is an additional mill levy which is added to the general county levy, school levy, and others to use in the calculation and computation of the county auditor. |
