Former Principal At. R.H.S. Gets Professorship Dr. Avard Rigby, principal of Roosevelt High School three years and now principal of Stewart Training School at the University of Utah, was promoted to the rank of assistant professor by the U Board of Regents. The action was approved at the board's March meeting. Dr. Rigby joined the U of U staff in 1953 as lecturer in elementary ele-mentary and principal of Stewart School. He received his B. S. de gree in 1938 at Brigham Young University and his EdD. in 1955 from the University of Utah. A veteran educator, Dr. Rigby came to the U of U after 14 years as principal and teacher in Uintah and Duchesne County schools. He taught one year in Duchesne Elementary Ele-mentary School, three years in Altamont High School and served one year as principal of Altamont High. He then became principal of Roosevelt High School three years after which he was Uintah School District personnel director one year. He was principal of Uintah High School at Vernal five years before coming to Stewart School. Active in civic affairs, Dr. Rigby Rig-by was vice-president of Lions International In-ternational in 1949-51 and president presi-dent of Vernal Lions Club in 1952. He was on the District Council for Boy Scouts of America 1947-52 and served as state social studies committeeman com-mitteeman in 1955. In education circles, Dr. Rigby served three terms as president of Duchesne' Education Assn. 1941-44; president of Utah Secondary School Principals Assn. 1950-52 and as a member of the Utah Education Ed-ucation Assn. professional relations committee in 1945. He served as coordinator of school lunch services for the' U. S. Department of Agriculture for one year. Dr. Rigby and his wife, Virginia, have two children.
