Show Know Your Schools .... Education In Duchesne County Is Big Business By Supt. Rowan C. Stutz Sometimes we fail to fully appreciate the magnitude of the responsibilities carried for us !by our Board of Education. The five men that constitute this board are elected by us and serve without pay in operating op-erating a business, which in numbers of employees, size of payroll, amount of money handled, han-dled, and diversity of opera tions, far exceeds any other enterprise en-terprise in the county. The Board of Education of Duchesne County employs a staff of 164 teachers, supervisor, supervis-or, bus drivers, lunch workers and custodians. The monthly payroll approximates approxi-mates $35,000. During the present pres-ent year this board will transact trans-act business involving nearly a million dollars. Under its direction, 200 stu dents will receive 175 days of instruction; 16,000 meals will be prepared and served; a fleet of 30 busses will be maintained, main-tained, serviced and operated, and will transport 18,000 children chil-dren over 167,000 miles. During the year, the Board of Education will purchase $20,000.00 worth of pencils, paper, books, glue, scissors, etc. It will buy, during the year, 650,000 half pints of milk, 40,-000 40,-000 gallons of gasoline, 1,880 tons of coal. As you can see, Education in Duchesne County is big business. |
