An official canvass of the votes cast in the Nov. 2 election by the Dudhesne County Board of County Commissioners revealed re-vealed but few changes in the totals of those seeking office on the two tickets. The official canvass can-vass was conducted on Monday, Nov. 8. According to Porter L. Mer-rell, Mer-rell, county clerk, Harold White' defeated Republican candidate for sheriff, picked up 8 votes in Utahn to bring his grand total to 1193, instead of 1185 as announced. an-nounced. Delbert Draper, supreme su-preme court judge candidate, and Ray E. Dillman, Fourth District Dis-trict judge candidate, each picked pick-ed up one vote in Altonah, and Dr. R. V. Larson gained another in Neola to swell bis grand total to-tal in the county to 2104. The constitutional amendment on reapportionment re-apportionment gained 100 votes "for," raising the total to 135 in stead of 35 as previously reported, report-ed, to increase the county total to 1777. A Ninety Percent Vote Duchesne County made somewhat some-what of a record for an off pres-lidentiaj pres-lidentiaj election when approximately approxi-mately 90 of the qualified voters vot-ers in the county cast their ibal- lots on Nov. 2. Two small districts, dis-tricts, Harper and Utahn, had every one who could vote make the trip to the polls to register them in the 100 category.. There were 2568 straight, partisan parti-san votes cast by both parties. In mos t instances the win margin was rather clearly defined de-fined giving the victors a comfortable com-fortable plurality. However, the two-year ccjnmission contest between be-tween incumbent Clinton J. Mickelson (R). and Edwin Oar-man Oar-man (D), was a close affair, with Mickelson - the winner by a scant 35 Votes. The final count was Mickelson 1290, and Carman, 1255. One other close contest was between incumbent Justice of the Peace George Wilcken and Edwin Kieibasa, in the Duchesne precinct. Judge Wilcken won the nod over his Democratic rival 167-155. All newly elected county officials of-ficials and precinct justices will be sworn into office on the first Monday in January. |
