Show "News Bits About Yesier-Years" J This week the Backward Glan-cest Glan-cest column will feature items from the first volume of the Roosevelt Roos-evelt Standard, published in 1914. PIKES PEAK TRAIL The Overland Tour of Automo-bilists Automo-bilists from Colorado Springs arrived ar-rived here safely over the Pikes Peak Ocean to Ocean Highway. Roosevelt really entertained the guests. Roosevelt made a holiday of it last Saturday in anticipation of the tourists coming across the country from Colorado Springs. Bunting and a big streamer was stretched across the street at the post office on which was painted in big letters, "Welcome!" oOo Persistent rumors have been in circulation for the past two weeks to the effect that Roosevelt is located in Uintah County. The object of this falsehood is apparent, as its sole object is to mislead the voters of Duchesne County into the idea that Roosevelt Roose-velt is not eligible to enter the I race for County Seat of Duchesne County. oOo Roosevelt - The Metropolis It would be difficult to convince the citizens of Roosevelt that hard times are among us, judging from the many new homes being erected erect-ed this season. In the Pickup Addition to the west, Mel Pickup is just completing complet-ing a fine, modern 5 room brick cottage. A block south and west, George B. McClellan is putting the roof on a new frame cottage and will move into it from the farm up the gulch as soon as completed. Wilford Whitlock, the seller of Studebaker Bros, buggies, is completing com-pleting a 4-room brick cottage on the corner of 1st West and 4th South Street. Our hustling deputy sheriff, Elroy Wilkins, has the foundation in for a brick cottage on the corner of State and North Center Streets. oOo HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING The new high school building has been moving along rapidly the past week. The excavating is completed and they are working on the foundation walls. They are using the sandstone from the quar-ies quar-ies near by and it will give the building a nifty appearance. The building is in a fine location, loca-tion, having a campus of 30 acres, and the site is on a little knoll, which can be seen for many miles in every direction. oOo A SNEAK THIEF Sunday night a thief entered a wagon belonging to M. Weiss, a peddler, which was standing on the lot in the rear of C. C. Larson's Lar-son's store, and lifted six pairs of shoes and other smaller articles. It was noticed that a fine bridle and a few other articles were missing from the barn. There is a sneak thief in the community and it will only be a question of time until he will be landed. |
