Five humans have been bitten by known -rabid animals and three of these cases are, at the present, pres-ent, taking the pasteur treatment. treat-ment. The cause of the outbreak has not been definitely traced in either of these states, and, as both states as well as Utah are not considered to be endemic, that is, areas where animal rabies rab-ies persist, it is felt that the introduction of this disease is possible through the transportation transpor-tation of dogs from southern states by migratory workers. These animals, undoubtedly, were in the incubation period during their transit and developed devel-oped symptoms shortly after arrival. ar-rival. Preventive programs have been launched in the areas of occurrence and dogs are being vaccinated against' rabies as well as being quarantined to restrict their movements. Because of our proximity to these states we feel that "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure," arid with very little effort on our part we can be protected against this serious disease VACCINATE YOUR DOG REPORT AND IMPOUND IM-POUND ALL STRAY DOGS. |
