Show Good Road Work In Sanpete County ' Sanpete county is doing at the present time what is probably the most important road work in its history. All up and down the county coun-ty trim north to south the work is nnw or will be s ion under way, ami by the lime all the money avai'able for the purpose is exhaust ed the public highways will be so changed for the better as to be al most unrecognizable by even the oldest inhabitant. The state appropr'ation of $10,000, made by the last Legislature, is the source from which most of the funds are coming. But in addition to that a special tax of five mills is to be imposed during the year by the county coun-ty commissioners from which more than twice that amount will come. This is to be in every case turned x back to the community from which ' itiomes, the amount to be divided according to the tax valuations of the respective precincts. In' addition addi-tion are the reserve and regular road funds, all of which combined give an amount sufficient to do a vast amount of good roaH work The work has been under way south from Mount Pleasant for a couple of weeks. S. E. Jensen is in charge and has a crew of from fifteen to twenty-five men under him. He commenced a block or two inside the city limits and is making rapid headway south. A splendid piece of turnpiked road is being made of a width of about thirty feet. From Spring City a second crew is coming com-ing this way, both expecting to continue con-tinue until they meet, and the two towns are connected by a good road. Other towns are to take the same action, and it is only a matter of time until good roads are the rule in Sanpete county, rather than the exception, as in the past. Amove that means much to this end of the county is the establishment establish-ment of a branch of the State Road up tnis side of the valle from Pigeon Hollow to Thist.e Junction, connecting connect-ing it at each end with other branches branch-es of the road now beh.g constructed by the State. An order to that end was issued by the pr.jper authorities several weeks ago. It means a large amount to be expended along this side of the valley until the roads are in firstclass shape, and afterwards a great deal of travel out of the valley - via the East side and the Thistle , Valley route. |
