Show Cards Undefeated In Strawberry Little League Play The Cards remained the only undefeated team in the Strawberry Straw-berry Little League after Monday's Mon-day's games, with the Phillies breathing down their necks only one game behind. . The league-leaders received a real scare last Friday when the lowly Lindon Utes held them to a 5-3 victory. Ute pitcher Roy McQuivey held the Card sluggers to their lowest run output of the season. Don Klemm's home run was the only big blow off Roy. Mark Bezzant pitched good ball in hurling his first complete game for the Cards. The Cards whipped the Cubs 12 to 3 in their other game of the week. The Phillies also came within a whisker of being upset. A last-inning last-inning rally by the Manila Giants Gi-ants just barely fell short to give the Phillies a hard-earned 6 to 5 win. Wes Duvall pitched three hitless innings for the winners. The best pitching performance of the week was turned in by Billy Walker of the Dodgers, who allowed the Pirates onle one hit in blanking them 5 to 0. The Dodgers moved into third place Monday night by trouncing the Lindon Tigers 12 to 3. George Anderson An-derson pitched well for the Dodgers. Dod-gers. Last year's champion Cubs began be-gan to look better as they rallied in the last inning to score 13 runs and overwhelm the Indians 18 to 11. Herb Gilbert belted his third home ran within a week to climax cli-max the rally. The Cubs barely -eked out a win over the Tigers 11 to 10 in their other game. The Indians remained one of the best hitting teams in the league in defeating the Braves 8 to 2, with Tommy Reay and Al Allen getting home runs. Tommy Reay pitched well to win the game. The Braves won a big game over the Dodgers, however, 13 to 6. Steven Higginson held the Dodger hitters in check. The Pirates, remained in contention con-tention by downing the Manila Giants 14 to 2 in Monday's other oth-er game. Blake Fordham, president of the Pleasant Grove Junior Baseball Base-ball Association, announced plans to construct fences adjacent to the foul lines at the two new Little League diamonds at Grove-crest. Grove-crest. Officials of the Association will contact Pleasant Grove merchants mer-chants and other baseball supporters sup-porters for contributions to finance fin-ance this improvement.
