Show Pleasant Grove Wins Two, Loses One in CU League Play Pleasant Grove's Central Utah baseball team have won two games and lost one in recent league play. The Berries are now in third place with a 5 won and 4 lost rating. The Helper Merchants lead the pack at the close of the first half of scheduled competition with a 11-0 standing. In second place are the Orem Benr'-.cid with a 9-1 mark. On June 17, PG beat the Lehi Pelicans 7-5 in a game played there. Doug Hoopes was the Berry Ber-ry pitchsr with Don Cox behind the plate. In the Lehi hassel PG collected 11 hits against 7 for the Pelicans. Peli-cans. Dan Buckner hit a tripple and Norm Woodhouse banged out two doubles for the winners. On June 22 it was Payson zero and Pleasant Grove 12 in a home game for the Berries. Pitcher Eddie Lewis left-handed the Lions into the dust with a one-hit one-hit performance. Doug Robinson was Eddie's battery mate. In their white-wash victory over ov-er Payson, Pleasant Grove outhit the losers' 10 to 3. Don Cox got 3 and Hal Lewis 2. Lewis is the leading hitter in Central Utah play. On June 24 it was Orem 7 and PG 4 in a game played at Orem. Doug Hoopes and Ralph Payne hurled for the Berries but neither neith-er had much luck stemming the Orem uprising. Doug Robinson oompleted the PG battery. Hits were 10 for the winners and 6 for the losers, which included in-cluded an over-the-fence home run by Dan Buckner. The Berries were scheduled to play the American Fork Steelers Wednesday in a makeup game. Results were not available , at press time. The first half of league play will be rounded out on Friday, July 1 with the usual All-Star game, slated this year at Spanish Span-ish Fork. |
