Show Cadmus Club Has Stock Market Discussed Recently Kenneth G. Handley of J. A. Hoble Investment Co. met with Cadmus Club members and husbands hus-bands in the home of Dr. and Mrs. Tal Thomson to acquaint the group with the fundamentals of the stock market. Mrs. Btsth Driggs, educational education-al chairman, introduced the speaker to the group. Mr. Handley explained the Security Se-curity Market in New York as the place where the savings of the nation is pooled with the purpose pur-pose of financing business thru-out thru-out the country. Mr. Handley has spent a number num-ber of years in New York and much of the information he gave was sparked with personal experiences ex-periences from his extensive background. He acquainted the group with both the capitolistic and free-enterprise system, explaining the fundamentals of each. "Everyone has been taught to save," he stated, "now the emphasis em-phasis is on making that money work for you." One way to achieve this is by purchasing common stock in a corporation and 'thereby become a part owner, own-er, he stated. He suggested that if people would start early and invest 10 per cent of their earnings in reliable re-liable stocks and bonds, upon retirement re-tirement they would be independent. independ-ent. With factual figures on charts he had computed, he showed show-ed the group the amazingly large dividends and net gain that would have been received by a $40 monthly mon-thly investment for a period of 20 years in three of the nations most stable companies. He stressed the hazards of such a program; one being that it is easy to fail to be consistent, and another being the temptation to speculate on a new and unreliable company. Both ' tend to bring about negative results. He also expressed his personal belief that the country is on the verge of the largest expansion program in its history, making this an opportune time for investment. in-vestment. At the conclusion of his comments com-ments he asked for questions from the group and brought forth more interesting facts pertaining pertain-ing to stocks and bonds, as he conducted open group discussion. Mr. and Mrs. Handley enjoyed light refreshments with the group, seirved by the hostesses, Mrs. Arvil iWadley, Marjorie Holdaway and Mrs. Ross Nielson.
