Show BYU To Battle Utah State In Provo Stadium This Evening Brandishing a tenacious fighting fight-ing spirit the likes of which hasn't been seen on a Utah gridiron in recent years, Brigham Young's football team will return to action tonight (Friday) in an always-rough always-rough battle with Utah State. The Cougars are currently concentrating con-centrating on the Farmer invasion, invas-ion, which is set for 8 p.m. in the Y stadium. One of the Beehive state's top rivalries, the Cougar-Aggie tilt will be the top game on this week's Skyline slate. The Atkinson eleven is undefeated thus far in conference confer-ence play, while the Aggies, after dropping two league contests, are now playing the role of spoiler for the other Skyline teams. Utah State holds a commanding lead in the BYU-USAC series, winning win-ning 15 to the Cougars' 10, with three of the games ending in a quarterback. The above mentioned combination combina-tion is largely responsible for the Cougars' surprising performances to date. Now the Cougars are ready to test the strength of Coach John Ronings' Aggies. The last two games between these two teams were decided by one-point margins, th Cougars taking the 1951 contest con-test 28-27 and the Aggies taking last year's game, 27-26. No injuries were sustained in the Idaho game by the Cougars, but there were enough bruises and aches to keep Trainer Rod Kimball working overtime on the Y players. play-ers. Lehi's Dick Felt is leading the BYU ground gaining department with a 7.2 average for 43 ball carrying car-rying assignments. The slender BYU junior twice broke away from the Vandals to score in Saturday's Sat-urday's game, but one TD was called call-ed back because of a clipping penalty. Friday night's game will be the third home performance of the Cougars this year. The Y's final game will be against Colorado AM in a homecoming tussle slated slat-ed for November 7. tie. Coach Chick Atkinson, who guided gui-ded his boys to a 20-14 win over Idaho University last Saturday, will be pinning his hopes on a fast capable backfield composed of eed Stolworth, fullback; Dick Felt, right halfback; Don Wood, left halTback, and Lavon Satterfield, |
